Home from Morro Bay 09-14-17

What a great group of ladies at the Gold Coast Quilters Guild in Morro Bay.  If you are ever there on the second Wednesday of the month, visit them at St. Timothy's Catholic Church at 1pm.  They are friendly and welcoming.  There were about 70 in attendance and they seemed to love seeing the quilts and hearing my stories about them.  I did hang "A Rash of Flamingoes" and Ruth's "Carpet of Gold Thread".  The guild supplied four hanging stands, so, with the one I brought, we had five quilts hanging.  One of them was Freddy Moran's eye-popping "Orange Peel Surprise" from 1997.  The fabric on the back is filled with birthday things - hats, streamers, cakes, etc., it is a long time favorite.

The trip up to Morro Bay on Tuesday was four and a half hours and the trip back yesterday took six hours, but we stopped for gas and also to have a bite to eat at the Starbuck's in Montecito.  The last couple driving hours were after the sun went down, but there wasn't any construction on the I-5 and the traffic was moderate.  We only ate out once because Liz had made sandwiches for us to eat on the road going up.  Before the meeting we had a delicious breakfast at Kitty's in Morro Bay.  Eggs, link sausage, fried fresh potato slices, toast, coffee, and one of their yummy homemade apple muffins.  The location isn't on the water, but we didn't miss having a view while we scarfed down our perfect breakfast.  We  also drove out to the "Rock" and watched the surfers, the birds, and the sea otter "nursery" where there were at least a dozen nursing moms with their babies.  Fortunately we had binoculars and could get a better view of them about 40 feet away.

Altogether a great, but fast trip.  I slept ten hours last night with only one potty break.  This morning I drove down to San Clemente to pick up KoKo at Nancy Ota's house.  After we came home we both had a little nap.  Traveling is hard on all of us!

Program for Morro Bay Guild 09-11-17

I think I am ready for the trip to Morro Bay to do a program for the Gold Coast QGuild on Wednesday.  They are a very nice group of quilters and I am delighted to be going back there for a program.  But tomorrow is going to be a looong day.  Take KoKo with me to pick up Bette in Laguna Woods, drop KoKo at Nancy Ota's, go to Surfside QGuild meeting, return Bette to her house, then drive home.  Where I will put the quilts in the car, pick up my friend and helper, Liz Williams, and then drive to Morro Bay.  It is about a four hours drive, without stopping for anything along the way.  Would love to get there before dark because the road up there is very dark and I haven't driven it very often.   But we are going to have to eat somewhere along the way.  Guess it will be "fast food".

I have the quilts all laid out and ready to bundle - five bundles and two rolls of four quilts to hang on quilt display stands.  This is the first time I have shown Flamingoes as part of a program - it is a big quilt and needs to be rolled instead of bundled.  Hope they like it.

I blogged about my trip to Gold Coast Quilt Guild in Morro Bay last September:

Quilt by Sandra Hart in TCQC 09-10-17

This quilt was previously on my blog on 06-24-12.  I purchased it from the SAQA online auction in 2011.

"Lake in the Woods" by Sandra Hart - Los Gatos, CA.   2011 12" x 12"
Created digitally with Photoshop Elements.  Cotton fabric, beads.

This is a whole cloth quilt, printed on fabric with the row of stitched beads added to indicate the water line. I almost didn't believe it until the quilt came in the mail.  The color in this image is off - it should be more green.

Big label.  But no contact information.  Unfortunately, Sandra's  website.is no longer functioning.

There is another Sandra Hart quilt on my Blog, one she showed in 2009 at Quilt Festival - Long Beach.

Saturday Stories - free pizza 09-09-17

Some years ago Diane was driving across the country and stopped for the night near a remote farming community.   Right on the highway there was a well known motel, several gas stations, and a couple bars.  There were no restaurants and the motel had no food service.  Although she had some emergency supplies (peanut butter, jam, crackers, a small can of chicken, some baby carrots and, of course, cookies) none of that sounded appetizing.   One of the bars advertised pizza, so she went there and ordered a pizza.  There was a young guy, maybe 30, draped over the bar with a beer in his hand, mumbling to himself.  Diane ordered her pizza and was getting out her money to pay when the guy said, "No, I'm going to treat you to a pizza."  Saying NO Diane continued to argue with him until he became really irritated.  The female bartender waved her hand and said, "Just let it go."  Diane acquiesced and the bartender took the price out of the money on the bar.  The guy seemed completely uninterested in the process and just kept mumbling.  The pizza was delivered, Diane said Thank You again and left to walk back tot he motel next door.  The next morning she was on the road again, wondering what that was all about.  Maybe she reminded him of his mother, or grandmother!  She is still wondering.

Friday Feet 09-08-17

These are over the knee boots.  When I first saw this image in a magazine I thought that tattooing had gone too far!  Of course, it has, but not in this instance.

Thursday Threads 09-07-17

This quilt was for Corky, the Poodle Prince, who I nannied for sixteen years.  He went over the rainbow bridge in 2013.  The quilt was for use at my house when he visited and he did use it.  It was made from blocks donated by a friend who made too many for a queen sized quilt!!  I just added the sashing and the squares on each end.  I think I made it in about 1998.  I thought about giving it to KoKo and maybe I will some day.
