Quilt from Thomas Contemporary Quilt Collection 05-28-23

This 12" square quilt was part of the SAQA online auction in 2014.  The  shapes and the color interested me and it was one of several I purchased that year.  Somehow I remember that Mary was a fairly new quiltmaker and a newish member of SAQA.  But I must be wrong, she won big at Quilt National - '23.

"Ojala"  Mary Mattimoe  2014  12" X 12"
Cotton fabric, Fusing, Machine quilting.

Quilt National - '23 at the Dairy Barn in Ohio opened this weekend  and the quilt that Mary submitted was selected as Best of Show.  It is a fairly large piece - perhaps six feet square.  Can't find any place that says, but in a picture with the maker it appears to be at least that large.

"Not Enough Time" Mary Mattimoe

Quilt by Ann Gail Peterson added to TCQC 11-30-14

This is the last of the five quilts I purchased at the SAQA online auction this year.  The background is more green, but I am unable to fix the problem.  It does show my favorite blue and yellow pairing and it is a very pretty piece.

"Scouler's Bluebell"  Ann Gail Peterson - Orcas Island, WA  2011 12"X12"
Designed from artist's wildflower photos; fused raw-edge applique; 100% cotton batiks on cotton duck; thread-painted and quilted with rayon threads; Mono-Poly bobbin thread; quilt edge is satin-stitched.

Very nice quilting - Ann has great control of her machine.

Here is another detail showing Ann's great work.

Nice back, but the sleeve needs to be in from the edges at least half an inch so it won't show when the quilt is displayed.

Hand written info on back rather than a label.  It definitely is permanent.  But there is no contact for the artist.

Martha Wolfe quilt added to TCQC 11-23-14

Here is another 12"x12" quilt from the SAQA 2014 online auction.  Another bird image in the growing collection.

"Skimmers"  2014 Martha Wolfe - Davis, CA  12"x12"
Layered, painted silk organza background, and hand-dyed silk charmeuse, raw-edge appliqued with machine quilting.

Martha seems to have extreme control when following the edge of her raw edge applique.

Skimmers' bottom beaks are longer than their top beaks. They fly closely over the ocean and drag their bottom beak in the water to scoop up small fish.

Back of quilt showing the sleeve and the very large, decorative label.

Here is the label - including a contact.

Aileyn Renli Ecob quilt added to TCQC 11-16-14

I like Aileyn's work - there are four of her pieces in the Collection - and always try to be first in line on the day her quilts come up for auction.  This is the latest addition to TCQC from the SAQA 2014 online auction.

"Ginkgo with Fruit"  Aileyn Renli Ecob   2014  12"X12"

Cotton fabric, synthetic accent fabric, cotton batting. Fused and machine stitched. Machine quilted. Decorative stitching on leaves and stems.  Reverse applique.

The rusty colored outline is the bottom fabric.  Notice the even width of that outline.

Nice variation in the leaves, including this print fabric used for two leaves.  The background is not blue - the picture above of the whole quilt is the most accurate color.

Nice wide sleeve, but it could use a little 1/4" ease so the hanging slat doesn't make the top roll over.

Nice handwritten label, but no contact for the artist.  I know how to reach Aileyn, but others would not.

Catherine Kleeman quilts in TCQC 11-09-14

There was so much interest last night in Catherine's quilt that I took a picture today of all three of her quilts that are in TCQC hanging together on my family room wall.

"No Way Out" (2011), "Scribble #18" (2013), "Round the Bend" (2014).  All 12"x12".
 All by Catherine Kleeman.

If you go to the right sidebar and click on Catherine's name you will pull up the previous posts about her quilts.
