Friday Feet 04-01-16

These shoes look so comfortable and the sox are pretty.  Not sure I would wear them together, but they looked great on the lady who did.

KoKo went home today.  Gosh, I really miss him!  And Froggie!

Not my Chickens 03-31-16

I don't know what the law is in Anaheim, but in Placentia, residents are not permitted to have chickens in their yards.  Having lived where someone had a rooster and didn't clean up after their chickens, I can see the logic of such a law.  But I miss seeing chickens.  When I am driving across country I always expect to see chickens, bur rarely do.

However, when I go to my local Starbuck's, which is in Anaheim, I see these two who have been living there for over a year.  Recently the company has remodeled the inside of the store and re-landscaped the outside.  I worried about my chicken friends, but needlessly.  They are still there and enjoying their new surroundings.  I think they were dumped at Anaheim Lakes and just moved over the fence to the Starbuck's lot.  Nice to see chickens in town.  Reminds me of San Juan Bautista on the central coast where chickens run free all over the place.

The Fairy in my Trash Can 03-29-16

Yes, she is back, shining in my trash can in the garage.  Such a brilliant fairy she is.

Here is a class available because the lady damaged her knee and cannot attend the class:
One of the best quilting experiences you can have is to attend the fabulous Empty Spools Seminars held in Pacific Grove, California at the Asilomar Conference Grounds. Ask anyone who has attended and you will get rave reviews.  The upcoming Session IV, April 10 - April 15, 2016 includes a class with the wonderful Melinda Bula. (Visit Empty Spools Seminars to get more information about the class.)   The room reservation is with two other quilters, close friends of Barbara’s.
Barbara Rocha was signed up to take Melinda Bula's class, but she now can not go and needs to have someone take her place. She is asking a discounted price of $1200. (The retail cost for this seminar is $1445.)
If you need any other information, feel free to call Barbara any time. She is retired and recovering at home with two new kittens. You can reach her at atrochalcsw@aol.com or
714 609-3967. It is her cell phone and always on. She can also be texted at that number.

I added this quilt to the Collection last fall when it was part of "Interpretations: Celebrating 30 Years" at Visions Art Museum in San Diego. This is the second of Marianne's quilts in TCQC.  Her work is amazing, such even stitches and density of stitch.

"Eleven-3-Thirteen"  Marianne Burr  2013 43"h x 33"w
Silk, felt, chiffon fabrics. Silk and cotton threads.
From her website:  "Beginning with a length of china silk stretched taut, Marianne applies a succession of resists, dyes, and paints.  Hand applique of her hand colored silks of various  types and extensive and stitching with silk and cotton threads,  many of them hand dyed, complete each design. The process may take up to four months of full time work to complete, depending on the size."

Marianne's artist's statement: The chaos that began in northeastern Honshu when the earthquake and tidal wave struck on the 11th of March, 2011 has not abated. The ominous pattern of nuclear contamination continues to be discovered and the salt water destruction of the farmland is recognized. Technology has been overpowered by natural forces. As we grieve for the victims we can examine our own life choices.

Here are some details of the quilt showing Marianne's mastery of her needle and thread.

The white is an overlay.

The dark blue is also an overlay.

The batting is heavy felt and the back is stitched to the felt, but not through the front of the quilt.
