Saturday Stories - a poem 11-05-16

It’s Saturday evening and what can I say?

I didn’t accomplish much today.

I did some laundry and put stuff away

And gave KoKo a brushing to keep fleas at bay.

We went for our walks, both morning and night,

KoKo is learning it is not proper to fight.

When other dogs walk by he gives them a fright

When he growls and lunges ‘til they’re out of sight.

The biggest job is yet to be done,

Changing clocks is not at all fun,

But do it I must if I’m not going to run

Late all week by watching the sun.

Friday Feet 11-04-16

I always find it interesting what shoes ladies wear to an opening.  Be stylish?  Be comfortable?  All these pictures were taken at the Visions exhibit opening at Visions Art Museum on Oct 15th.

I urge you to see the Visions exhibit at Visions Art Museum in San Diego.  It is outstanding and the catalog is also outstanding.  The exhibit runs through January 8th.

Kathleen McCabe's "Crow at the Crater" received the Thomas Contemporary Quilt Collection Recognition award.  And, while I was there, I purchased her quilt.  It is mostly commercial fabric with a few purchased hand dyes.  You will see it again some Sunday with some detailed pictures.

Here is that cute doggie again. 11-03-16

Mary pointed out that her hair is no longer brown.  KoKo and Froggie don't mind a bit.

At home KoKo insists on going out and stretching out on the dirt.  The lawn is long gone due to the drought.

KoKo is a delight in my life.  Except for the mandatory walks.  Groan.

Looking back eight years to 2008 11-01-16

One of the wonders of the computer is that I can easily look back at pictures taken since 2003.  I've had trouble with the automatic dating on Picasa, so I try to ID everything with a date.  These pictures were taken in 2008 about the same week of October that I drove up to San Juan Bautista this year.

Buckeye tree in autumn (of the genus  Aesculus the same as horse chestnuts) is the first tree to lose its leaves.

One antler deer visiting the bird bath for a drink.  The contraption on the tree above him is something to deter squirrels (I think).

Mary - dinner at Mariposa House.

Mary checking out the roses.  Mariposa House, the restaurant, is long gone.

A solitary poplar tree along the canyon road.  It is also long gone, a victim of the drought.

Flowers in Mary's deck boxes.

Quilt by Helen Godden added to TCQC 10-30-16

"Blue Wren"  Helen Godden  2016  12" X 12"

Original design painted on black cotton with Lumiere Acrylic paint and free motion quilted.

Another quilt from the SAQA 2016 online auction.  Helen Godden is well known in Australia and you can see her website at www.helengodden.com   She is an accomplished painter along with her quiltmaking abilities.  The Blue Wren is an Australian bird and like all wrens its tail is erect.  The quilting is quite intricate and goes beautifully with the subject of the quilt.

Down to San Diego and back today 10-19-16

An amazing trip to San Diego that took only one hour and 30 minutes down and one hour and 40 minutes back!   Light traffic and only one hangup in Oceanside where there was an accident.  I drove down for a donor recognition event which was a Hat Party.  So, everyone wore a hat and some created hats there at the musesum.  It was a fun evening, but not well attended.  I have some pictures, but didn't ask if I could post them, so I'll only do one of Beth Smith the Museum Director.   I wore my very special Columbian hat presented several years ago by the Westside Quilters Guild, there will be pictures of that from somone else's camera.

KoKo is staying with his friends Dee and Ed until tomorrow morning.  He seemed really happy to be at their house again.  Hope he is a good dog while he is there.  I gave him a beauty appointment this morning, so he was looking quite handscome for his visit.
