Laser War in the Park 08-04-12

When I took Corky out in the backyard this morning I saw some strange things in the park.  I couldn't imagine what these things were or what purpose they might serve.  I went back out with my binoculars and could read the sign on the back window of the pickup truck - Lazer Express  So I consulted Google and found. http://www.lazerxpress.com

Later I went back with the binoculars and watched while the 10-ish young boys played war among the inflated barriers.  I thought it was very strange to see this and the parents and babies in strollers watching from the sidelines.  I guess war is fun to some people.

Friday Feet... and Fanny! 08-03-12

Some friends were on a cruise that stopped in Sitka, Alaska, this spring and had their picture taken with an eagle "enactor" - or whatever those guys are called.

I've notice more and more jeans with back pocket "bling", so I think I will try for some fanny shots.  This one doesn't have bling, but isn't it an attractive design?

Quilt Festival - Long Beach '12 08-01-12

These are the last photos I have of this year's Quilt Festival.  Except for a few more of the 12x12 exhibit which I'll post tomorrow evening.

This quilt is larger than I expected it to be.  I'd guess it is about 50" square.  I did find picture elsewhere that states, "1212x1436, but I don't know what those numbers mean. Do you?

A wonderful handmade quilt - beautifully stitched.  The blue background is inspired.

I see more and more thread painted pieces that are almost photographic.

Here is another of the detailed quilts from Japan.  Such patience!

See the beads at the top and down the side of this image.

Here are more of the tiniest glass beads, like minute stars scattered around this quilt.  Each one sewn by hand.

y

I like this quilt very much and went back to visit it a number of times.  It looks cold, doesn't it?

Laura Fogg never disappoints.  Another of her special landscape quilts with gorgeous details.

Laura has an unerring eye for choosing fabric to convey the feeling she wants.

Terry has a different view of tulips that is equally as effective.  The black around the quilt is the drape behind it, which I left to show the drooping leaf in the front center.

The patched back ground with flowers and butterflies lends a whimsical note.

Visions Museum Director Beth Smith and volunteer Judy Warren-Tippets.
Last day of Festival at the VAM table.  We passed out a lot of literature and sold a bunch of books.  It was a great weekend.   http://www.visionsartmuseum.org/

Quilt Festival - Long Beach '12 07-31-12

Here is another wonderful pieced quilt from Ruth Powers.  www.ruthpowersartquilts.com/

What a fabulous sky - very midwestern.

Fabulous precise piecing - in the feet and face especially.

And just look at these realistic feathers.

I imagine this refers to the game of cricket, rather unknown in the USA.

I enjoyed seeing this quilt from the VAM table.  It is not very photogenic, but it shows beautifully.

Nicely balanced "slice and dice" style.  About 18" x 24".

A beautiful quilt (of course, it has blue and yellow!) with interesting techniques.  In the sky the artist has quilted two large open hands - click on the picture and maybe you can see them.

Nice little grass stalks along the edge of the fields and interesting zigzag machine applique on the trees.

Apparently there is still a movement to make three dimensional quilts.

This is a very nice exhibit, but they ask viewers not to take pictures.  My BAD!   There is a book available - see the Dinner at Eight Blog http://dinnerateightartists.blogspot.com/

Jane just gets better and better!

Just look at this dear little bunny.  www.janelafazio.com
And so does Susan!  www.bluemoonriver.com/
This is unlike anything I have seen of Paula's work - very nice.    http://www.paulachung.com/ The spot on the bottom is where I removed the stand for the placard - this doesn't look nice, but better than the placard.
