"Last Walk in Autumn" 11-03-18

Autumn it always a time of memories for me.  My late husband Floyd and I both loved the season and especially to go up to the east slope of the Sierra for a last camping trip of the year.   He died in 1990 and when I participated in the Journal Project in 2007 this is one of the quilts (8-1/2" X 11") that I made.  It is based on several photos taken on our last trip in 1989.   I pin it up for a month or so this time of year.

Friday Feet 11-02-18

Guess I am not really done with Friday Feet, I keep seeing more examples.  Love this one, although it is a little gross.

These are some kind of plastic.  There was a blurb explaining them and I thought I had saved it, but can't find it anywhere in my files, nor by Googling "skin high heels".

GREAT - I found the blurb that came with the photo:

But here is something else that came up in that search:

Eating Lunch - Or Not 11-01-18

Generally I either eat breakfast or lunch.  Somehow, I am rarely ever hungry in the morning, but I will eat brunch - cereal or a frozen waffle or, if I am really lucky, leftover sushi or whatever I had for dinner the previous evening.  And then I am not hungry for lunch.   Which isn't at all interesting, but leads to this article which I do find interesting.

I have searched for different countries and wish I could try some of the things other people eat for lunch.   This one starts out with Chinese, but at the bottom are clicks for a number of different countries.   https://www.reference.com/food/chinese-people-eat-lunch-d4ce326004ebf96f

I also find it interesting that I did not find a single candy wrapper on the streets or sidewalks when KoKo and I took our walk this morning.  Amazing!  In the past there have always been at least a few blowing along our route.

Nothing but spooky pictures tonight. 10-30-18

Well, I have some Halloween pictures from the neighborhood and I put them in my Picasa files.  Picasa says they are there, but Blogger can't find them!   I'll keep working at it.  Meanwhile here is one of my favorite clip art images.  Booooo.

Monday Browsing 10-29-18

Years ago I was an active bird watcher, but allergies curtailed my outdoor time, so now I am just a casual bird watcher - a "peeper" as the Brits say.   Over the years I have kept track of the birds I see for the first time and in the past have always limited that to those that I can ID without the help of another person.   Bird ID books make that possible.  However, a bird watch with experienced birders is the way to learn to ID on one's own.   There is a California Bird page on Facebook that is really amazing where photographers post fabulous images and comments from others on the list help point out features that make birds individual.   There are some very serious birdwatchers on the list and some unbelievable photographers.  I think you can access it with

Quilt by Irene Kahmann - Germany 10-28-18

"Korallenriff" [Coral Reef]  Irene Kahmann - Germany  2010  24" square
Silk and cotton fabric, poly batting, machine pieced and applied, hand quilted.

Creative in her art and in her fund raising, Virginia Spiegel presented "Tuesday Tote" earlier this year [2010] to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. For several Tuesdays in a row she offered tote bags filled by individuals and groups of quilt artists. I bid on one of Karey Bresenhan's totes with international donations and my bid won. I received a box of great fabrics and 'goodies' which included this quilt donated by German quilter Irene Kahmann.  When I Google her name there are a number of sites that include winning quilts she has shown in various venues. And there is an interview on the Alliance for American Quilts site:www.allianceforamericanquilts.org/qsos/
Since I posted this quilt first in 2010 she has published two quilting books in German and they are available through Amazon.    She had a quilt in Quilt National 1989.

This is the first quilt from Germany in the TCQC

The border is machine pieced from silks in different neutral colors.  The applique is very fine machine stitching.

The back is a lovely cotton print of seashells that I have never seen.  Perhaps it is a German fabric, of which I have seen very little and have not been to Germany.

One unusual thing about this quilt is that it is the only one in the Collection that I did not personally choose.  There was no picture or description in the listing for the auction, so I just accepted what came.  It is not quite as blue as in these pictures, the back has a faintly blue background instead of a bright blue.  I should take a better picture in better light.
