Still more flowers and Friday Food 04-19-19

I'm just not doing anything much to write about.  KoKo and I walk in the morning and evening and I work at trying to get caught up with everything I have neglected for way too long.  And I am starting to get ready to go to Empty Spools next week.  Meanwhile, everything is blooming and the gentle air is filled with fragrance.  The temps are in the 70s with some 80s, but it seems pleasant on our walks.  The newest issue of "Fiber Art Now" arrived today, so I had to sit down and read it cover to cover.  Beth Smith, former director of Visions Art Museum is the editor and she wrote a nice article about Marty Ornish of San Diego who uses recycled clothing and quilts in her garments.  It is a fiber art publication, not a quilt magazine, but I find all the different fiber work interesting, even it I don't understand a lot of it.  Keep the mind active!

This isn't a rabbit pie!  It is a peach pie from Polly's Pies and I guess they just duded it up for Easter.  It think it is odd, but I love peach pie; I freeze a slice or two and also share it with my neighbor.  It is very good. Of course, fresh peaches would be better, but I'll have to wait a few months for that special treat.

I think this is a variety of amaryllis, but not sure.  It is very lovely.

Looks like a clover flower elongated and the leaves are clover like, but I don't know what it is.  It is cultivated, not wild.

And my mother's favorite, a lovely white iris with some red roses in the background.

Here is some more butterfly bush, it is in a lot of yards on the loop that we walk.  Seem to be seeing more butterflies this spring than I usually do.  Maybe they came because of this.

Not in my garden or neighborhood! 04-18-19

I had never seen or heard of this flower until Victoria Slind-flor posted about it on Facebook.  Victoria lives in Oakland, CA, and said it took about four years for her plant to bloom.  I wonder if I could get one to bloom here in SCalifornia.  The plant's origin is Chili so maybe the climate wouldn't be too much of a barrier.  Check out the info about the plant in the website below.  It is an amazing blossom - hard to believe it is real and not plastic from China or glass from Chihuly.

Flowers, again 04-16-19

KoKo in front of a Corona de cristo de flor grande   ( Crown of Christ - big flower)
This plant is in a yard on the next street.  The house is for sale.  Hope the new owners keep up the yard, it is full of interesting plants.

Can you see the very spiky stems?

Here is a close up.  How does one handle these?  Welding gloves?

I don't know if there are two plants growing together or if the plant yields different colored flowers.

Both red and cream colors are nice.

I think the pink tint on these are because the blossoms are old and ready to fall.

More Flowers 04-14-19

The only photographable activity I am doing these days is taking KoKo for his two walks a day.  Generally about 7am and 7pm.  The weather has been very nice (77F today) and the flowers are delightful.

A tall and healthy Watsonia in the space between two driveways.

Nearby a butterfly bush.

I think I have finally figured out the cropping and the leveling.  Still working at it though.
