Quilters' Run 06-20-15

Today I took a break from my rearranging (not that I have accomplished much with that project) and visited four of the 26 shops on the SCalifornia Quilters' Run.   That  seems like a lot of shops for one area, but they are located from Lancaster to San Diego and up the coast almost to Ventura.  Most are scattered through the greater Los Angeles area.  But the four I visited with my friend Liz were all fairly local.   It always helps to be looking for a particular item or fabric.  Liz was looking for Thread Heaven (I think that is the correct name) a product that slicks up one's thread when hand quilting - we found it at the last shop we visited.  I was looking for a better grey for a project I am working on and I bought several half yards.  Now I have about 2 1/2 yards of different grey fabric when I only need one 1/2 yard.  How does that happen?
On the left are four of my greys, I'll probably use the one on the right.  In the center are the four fat quarters that were gifts from each shop.  On the right are three violet fabrics - just because they are beautiful.

It was unfortunately quite hot today, the last day of Spring.  Everywhere we went it ran about 91F.  All the shops were giving out small bottles of water, some on ice even!

It was fun, but enough and I am tired tonight.

SUPPORT CHERRYWOOD FABRICS INDIEGOGO CAMPAIGN TO RAISE MONEY FOR EXPANSION – Cindy Grisdela writes; "Many of us, including me, have a stash of beautiful hand dyed fabrics from Cherrywood Fabrics. They have outgrown their current location, so they're kicking off a crowdfunding campaign to raise money to move their hand dyeing operation to a new building that is safer and more appropriate for their business. Please visit https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/cherrywood-is-dyeing-to-move#/story for more information and consider making a donation so Cherrywood can continue to create their fabrics for many years to come." Heather Dubreuil quilt from Fiberlandia auction 06-14-15

This was the hottest item at the auction and, I think, brought the highest price.  Heather has a similar piece (12" x 12") in the SAQA auction this coming fall.

"Connectivity: Fort Clyde"  Heather Dubreuil -  Hudson QC, Canada 6"W x 8"L
Cotton fabrics, 40-weight thread.

Heather explains, "[this quilt] is based on a photo I took last June when my husband and I drove from Portland Maine up the coast to Bar Harbor.  We decided to visit Mohegan Island because of its history as an art colony, and to get there we took the ferry from Port Clyde, a tiny fishing village.  On the same trip we spent a couple nights in Boothbay Harbor, and my photo from that town inspired my donation to the SAQA auction this year."

Heather's method is to draw the lines on Heat-Away stabilizer, tracing the line on the film with a marker, and then stitch through it to guide the quilting.

The hot palette takes its cue from a glorious dawn.

There is no label - because the quilts were matted and a paper label was attached to the back.  www.heatherdubreuil.com
