Empty Spools class with Hilde Morin #6 05-15-14

These are the last three students from Hilde Morin's class at Empty Spools Seminars.

For her inspiration Jan Archer brought photos of a ceramic frieze of houses. She didn't put them all up on her design board until the last day.

One house each day for four days.

Randi Swindler was inspired by an ancient street in European.

This is where she was on the last day of class.

Carole Rossi was working from a tiny picture of a village on a cliff side.

You can see the tiny picture at the top of this photo.

This is where she was when the class finished.

It was a good class and Hilde is an able and attentive teacher.  I recommend her class.

Sydney Moberg was diagonally across the room from me so I didn't see what she was doing.  And I didn't take many pictures of her work.

Her inspiration was the scenic place mat at the bottom of the photo.

By the last day of class she had created a row of ancient looking houses.

Kim Jacobs made house shapes with lots of windows and doors.

And she moved them around to accomplish the look she wanted.

Then she added roofs and stairs and a road.  This is where she was on the last day of class.

Empty Spools class with Hilde Morin #4 05-12-14

One of the first things that Hilde had her students do was to put masking tape on their design board to define the size of their project.  Not that the work had to stay within those boundaries, just to help keep the scope of the building sizes balanced.

Maggie Davis started out with a lovely blue door.

And had accomplished this much before the end of class.

Kathy Hundhammer started out with a roof and the banister on a deck.

You can see her inspiration photo on the left.

She created a rhododendron bush with the Solvy lace technique

By the time the class ended she had created house and deck.

Deb Powell started with this, continued to add and move things around.

Hilde wanted us to make each building as a block - complete.

The heads of Deb's pins are butterflies - cute.

Her inspiration photo has a boat with eyes painted on it.  Note her flowering tree made with the Solvy lace technique.

Before the end of class Deb rearranged her buildings.

Virginia Richardson lives in Tucson which inspired her project.

She changed the angle of the background strips which greatly changes the effect of her piece, making it more "mountainous".
