Epiphany 01-06-24

I was surprised to run across this image online.  Seems odd to me to use Happy and Epiphany in this juxtaposition. Is Epiphany something to be happy about?  I'm completely out of the loop on this, but for some strange reason the word has come up more frequently this season, this year.

The temperature has gotten more like winter this past week and morning temps are in the 40F range. I try to  wait until it gets to 50F, but KoKo needs to go out.

We have had a bit of rain, but mostly at night. One morning last week we got soaked on our morning walk, so I just put KoKo in the sink  and gave him a bath since he was very wet and a bit muddy.

If we lived in Tucson, Arizona this is the sunsets they have been having!

Miscellaneous stuff 03-14-21

My life has gotten so dull that I usually can't think of anything to post on my blog.  Tonight I looked at some pictures from years past and came up with these images.

Ten years ago I had a hummingbird nest in my little tree, which has since died all on its own.  Lovely to watch these little guys grown until they were hanging out the sides of the nest.  Allen's hummingbirds. 

This was March 13, 2020.  I took the picture while we were walking on Brian Street, which parallels Warren Street where we live.  The tall, light colored tree in the right of the image is a "needle" cactus which has turned red in the sun at this time of year.  However, the owner discovered that it is a highly poisonous tree and the white sap is very irritating and can even cause blindness.  He took out all of those that grew in his yard.  I still have one in my backyard and watch carefully when KoKo is out that he doesn't rub up against it.  

Also from a year ago.  A close up of the trunk of a crape myrtle, a street tree in our neighborhood.   This time of year all of their bark has peeled off leaving lovely smooth "skin" to show.  

And finally, here is KoKo last year in March holding on to his Froggy while Froggy undergoes surgery on his foot.  Poor Froggy he is covered with scars, but still holding together. 

We will see the vet tomorrow morning and KoKo will have a blood test to see what the status of the pancreatitis is now.  He seems to be his old self and I would like to get him back on kibble instead of the smelly canned food the vet has him on.  Also a return to dental treats to keep him teeth in good shape.

Looking back 04-15-20

I'm suffering from a terrible urge to be out on the highway!  Going anywhere.  Here are some places I have been in years past.   Wide open vistas, blue skies, many types of clouds and light traffic.   Be still my heart!

A busy lazy day 02-23-20

I decided to not drive to SDiego today for a meeting of the art quilt group I belong to down there.  I was just wiped out by my long drive yesterday - I don't have the endurance I once did!  So, after KoKo's walk and breakfast we went back to bed and slept another four hours.  I don't know about KoKo (since he sleeps about 80% of any day, as most dogs do), but I felt revived and accomplished a lot.  First priority was unload the car and put everything away, which takes an inordinate amount of time it seems.  This time I only had two quilts to put away, so many are either at Back Porch Fabrics or Visions Art Museum, it is easy to find spaces now.  

The rain yesterday didn't amount to much at my house, but the clouds were pretty great.  Here are some on the route across the 210 Freeway just past Pasadena.  Someday I will make a cloud quilt, haven't quite figured out how yet. 

I was driving pretty much due east so the San Gabriel Mountains are off to the left of the pictures.  The mountains stop the clouds and they pile up. 

I hope to edit the travel photos one day soon.

Clouds 08-31-19

Three years ago in 2016 I drove to Maine to take a class with Elizabeth Busch.  It was a long, but fabulous trip that I enjoyed very much.  After the wonderful seven day class was over, I headed back home across country to Placentia, CA.  On my birthday, Sep 1, 2016, I stopped at the New England Quilt Museum where it started raining and rained for several days as I traveled west.  

Yes, there was a storm ahead. 

Closer and darker, but no tornadoes here. 

Still raining, but looks like clearing ahead. 

By the time I crossed Colorado the sky was an arch of blue with just a few distance clouds.

Blue - To help you stay cool. 07-05-18

It has been a rather cool June in SCalifornia, what we call June Glooms.  But now at the start of July the temperature has risen to new heigths.  Projection for tomorrow is 111F.   So, I ran through some picture files looking for some cool blue to take the edge off the heat.
