Things are pretty dull these days! 07-02-20

I keep hearing the phrase, "We are all in the same boat."  But some of us are in their own boat by themselves!   With only KoKo, the world's cutest Yorkie, for company I seem to spin my wheels more than I usually do.  I just don't seem to have any drive, any interest in creating, or any incentive to finish what I start.   I know I am not the only one who feels this way and I have no suggestions on what to do about it.  So, I plug away - reading, walking, eating, browsing Facebook, and doing a bit of sewing.   Once a week I go for lunch to the home of a couple who are isolating.   She makes a soup and I take a salad.  So, I must go to the farmer's market in my mask to find makings for the salad.   Besides the delicious food and interesting conversation I also enjoy seeing the actual faces of my friends.  Have you noticed that people don't seem to be "real" when you can't see their faces.  Maybe those face shields are a good idea, so you can see if someone is smiling or frowning or crying or.... whatever.

I will keep blogging.  Writing whatever comes to my head.  And sending good thoughts your way that you are being more successful than I at this isolation situation.

And I will keep posting pictures of quilts as I can.
Love, Del & KoKo

Yes, I am at Empty Spools at Asilomar, Pacfic Grove, CA 04-30-19

Apologies for not writing.  I have just been overwhelmed and sooooo tired.  This is my 28th year at Empty Spools and seems harder than any other year.  There are so many hills and stairs to climb.  Fortunately I have my favorite room #520 in Pirate's Den and my class is right across the drive at Merrill Hall.  So, other than going to meals I just have a short flat walk to get to class.

Sue Benner is such a good teacher, but this must be her most difficult class because she presents a different fusing project on each of the four days.   I did not complete the first one, rectilinear composition, but put it away to start the 2nd day project, curvilinear composition.  In it we need to show background, mid ground, foreground.  I am as far as the background which will continue with trees in the mid ground and leaves in the foreground.  Hope I can pull it off tomorrow.  Too tired tonight to go back to work after the evening program.

I am suffering from a very sore wrist, elbow, torn rotator cuff, so wear different kinds of braces and try to use my left hand/arm.  I've discovered that I always put my left arm in my clothes first.  After all these years I have to start over again because if I put the left arm in first, I can't bend my right shoulder enough to get into the other arm.  Odd things one discovered with advancing age!

Several people who read my blog have stopped me to say hello.  Always so good to meet those people out there keeping up with my life.  Thanks to each of you.  Leave a comment!

First day Project.   Actually color is brighter, but not too bright.

Second day project.  Black fabric with white lines is upholstery fabric, light piece on left side is a sheer linen.  The stripy piece is not a tree trunk, but a background.

Posting photos 10-20-18

I hope you have enjoyed seeing some of the quilts from  PIQF 2018.  I try to show a variety of styles, techniques, and design features.  I have added one picture to yesterday's post, it was taken by a friend from San Diego.  I hope to have a few more from my friend Jeanette who traveled with me to Santa Clara, but I'm not sure when.

Tonight was the opening reception for the biennial Visions show at the Vision Art Museum in San Diego.  I wasn't able to attend, but tomorrow I will go to the "walkabout" where the artists who attended will talk about their quilts.  So, I may have some pictures for tomorrow night's post.

Thanks for the comments and e-mails, it is always nice to know that someone is reading the blog.   I can't thank you directly without an e-mail address.  So, in general, Thank You!

My laptop is going into the computer hospital, maybe for three days.  I can read e-mail on my phone, but not send.  However, I do have the iPod mini which, so far, I can turn on, turn off and charge!  Maybe this will force me to learn how to use it.  At any rate, I will not be posting on my blog until later in the week.  Love, Del-at-home

Miscellaneous Stuff 12-16-09

I was astounded to learn a couple months ago that some bloggers don't read comments on their blog or that of anyone else! To me that is one of the wonders of blogging - the sharing that goes on around the world. In the beginning I thought I could respond to every comment, but find that that could become a full time job. So, periodically, I send a general thank you to all the comments I have received since the last time I said Thank You. Sometimes the information I receive back in the comments could be of interest to everyone - here are a few of those comments.
Diana Fiet sent this about the "Keep on Trucking" post of 12-12-09:
"About your truck photos. I know some first responders so I know where to look for info about what's aboard the truck with the rubber bladders of liquid. http://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/saf-sec-sur/3/erg-gmu/erg/idindex.aspx?page=40
The metal sign with the number on it identifies product as part of the group 3266 and the listing says it's 3266
154
Corrosive liquid, basic, inorganic, n.o.s. [possibly sodium or potassium hydroxide; Sodium Hypochlorite,]
and the emergency responder info page says this about it:
http://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/saf-sec-sur/3/erg-gmu/erg/guidepage.aspx?guide=154
Amazing what is out there on the highways with us." I am continually amazed by the things I see on the road and am always thankful for an explanation.
Terry Grant sent this URL for info about the "Benson Bubblers" in Portland - I posted a picture on 12-10-09.
http://www.portlandonline.com/water/index.CFM?c=48918
Now that she reminds me and I read the item some of the information comes back to me. Fifty years away has eroded my memory, but I do remember that they existed when I was growing up there in the 40s and 50s.
I have put all the photos from Turtle Bay in Redding on a Picasa album. If you want to look at them go to:
http://picasaweb.google.com/DELQLTS/ReddingCATurtleBayComplex113009?authkey=Gv1sRgCJy49vPj9ui0Uw# You can enlarge by clicking on the small magnifying glass at the top right or by clicking on the "Full Screen" icon on the top left. This will allow you to read the captions on the old photos (from the 40s) that are posted around the interior of the structure.

For those who have asked, or wondered, my Aunt Dorothy died on Saturday, December 12. She was asleep and just didn't wake up - a good way to go, I think. Thank you for caring. Del
