ZOOMING! 06-09-20

This morning Surfside Quilters Guild held their first ZOOM meeting on the regular meeting day and time.  And 107 members checked in!  It was so wonderful to see those familiar faces and hear those familiar voices.  Thanks to everyone who came!  Some of us need to learn a little more about ZOOMing, but generally it worked well, I thought.
I don't understand how the member views are arranged.  President Mary Arter remained in the upper left corner of my screen the entire time.  And my view was right next to hers.   Because I clocked in early?  Or does my image move around on the screens of others?  We had an educational presentation by Jean Impey on the printing of fabric as done by Hoffman Fabrics.  It was mostly about making batiks, which I found very interesting.  She works at Hoffman and used professional slides from their archives.   We also presented our outgoing president, Monica Shafer, with her president's quilt which reflects her love of all things Hawaiian.  Good meeting.  Hope to see you all next month.

Quilts at Surfside Quilter Guild meeting 04-10-18

The Surfside Quilters Guild meeting today in San Clemente, CA, featured speaker Jean Impey who spoke about CREATIVITY.  This is a new presentation she has originated and it was very educational.  She showed a Power Point program detailing many aspects of creating and also shared some of her diverse quilt creations.
If your guild or women's group is looking for new, innovative speakers check out Jean's website:  www.SewJean.com

Here are a couple of the quilts she shared at our meeting.

Empty Spools - Sue Benner "Abstraction" Class (cont'd) 03-13-17

Here are more pictures I took in Sue Benner's class at Empty Spools at Asilomar.  There will be one more set tomorrow night.

Suzanne Gaensbauer used this picture of apples in a crate for her inspiration.

This shows the original and a paper collage made with pieces ripped from magazines.

Here are six abstractions from the original inspiration.

This is Suzanne's first project with the picture that Sue gave her on the right and her abstraction on the left.

LaDonna DeCamillo abstracted these from her inspiration image from home.

Carroll Hirsch received the picture at top center from Sue and created the abstraction at top right.  Her other abstractions are from her inspiration photo at middle right.

Mea Lee  worked from the magazine picture at top left to create the abstract on the bottom.  She started her smaller work with the very faint picture at top right which is a cabin in Tahoe.

She created these three abstractions of the cabin, each more abstract.

Margie Bushaw worked from her inspiration photo at top left.  On the bottom right is one she called "Abstraction Playtime", made from scraps.

At top left is the picture she received from Sue and the abstraction at bottom right.

Jean Impey worked from the picture at left to create this great abstraction on the right.

Here is Jean's board with the inspiration photos at left and the abstractions on the right.

A little closer up on two of Jean's pieces.

Nancy Bourns' board - on the left side are the abstraction from Sue's photo with the actual photo below it.  Next to her name is the inspiration photo she brought from home and then the six smaller pieces she created from fabric.

Here are two larger abstracts that Nancy Bourns brought from home to share.

Great program at Surfside QGuild today 06-09-15

Our speaker today was a member of our guild, Jean Impey, who presented a colorful and thought provoking program.  She showed about thirty quilts, some very large, some large, some small. She is fond of spider web and has created a number of variations.  She does both pieced and appliqued works and has several patterns.  She also does commissions.
Her theme was "Finding Your Passion" and going with it with gusto.  I was inspired!  And I recommend her as a speaker and teacher.
Jean was one of the featured artists at Empty Spools Seminars this year and will be teaching there in 2017.   http://SewJean.shutterfly.com/
