Corky at Camp Del 04-02-13

Yes, the little guy was with me over the weekend.  He hasn't been here for some weeks, so we had a nice doggy/nanny love-in.

Mostly he sleeps anymore, but he will be 17 in July, so I guess he is tired.
But he is still a sweet little guy and very smart in getting his way with his Auntie Del and his parents.

It is always amusing to see the strange positions dogs get into when they sleep.  This seems to be one of his favorites.

Lotta lovin' tonght! 09-15-12

I like this funny picture I took this summer.  Corky was at Camp Del and I had his beds from LBeach and here so I could launder them and make a few small repairs.  I lined them up in my family room and watch while he checked out each one, ending up in the one that actually belongs in the family room.  He has a blue one just like it in the bedroom here.  The center bed is his "boat bed", so called because it is shaped like a boat - he loves to rest his head on that little "hammock" that is the prow.  The bed closest to the camera is his "downstairs bed" in LBeach.  Usually his lamb is in it, but the lamb wasn't quite dry yet when I took the picture.  Corky has quite a collection of dog beds, besides these three and the one in my bedroom, he has another in his parents bedroom and two out in the house in the desert.  All but the boat bed have pillows which he tosses in and out as the mood moves him.

Three beds for the Poodle Prince.

Such a sweet loving little doggy he is.  I'm glad he comes to stay with me.  I'll take him home tomorrow, but he'll be back next weekend.

Loving that Corky dog! 09-17-11

Corky, the Poodle Prince, is staying at Camp Del until September 27th while his parents are on vacation and business up north.  He rarely stays with me for such a long stretch, but I will take him for as long as I can have him.  He is such a dear little guy.
In his neighborhood or mine, he loves to sit on my lap, hang his head out the window and check out everything in sight.  I only drive 10mph when we are doing this "touring" - it is about the only time he doesn't complain that we aren't going fast enough!

At Camp Del he likes to snooze on a chair next to me while I am sewing or computing.

Alert or.....

at ease, he has my heart!

At Indian Creek Lodge near Weaverville he is one pampered puppy.

I made him a little peaked cap when we were at Indian Creek Lodge.  It stayed on long enough to take a picture.

A House Guest 05-09-11

My friends Nancy and Mike are out-of-town and have left their little Suki with another friend.  But the other friend needed to go to a Mother's Day event and spend the night, so Nancy ask me if I would take Suki for twenty-four hours.  Sure!  She is a sweet little dog, maybe half the size of Corky and verrrrry active.

The friend and I met in a parking lot (no, not Starbucks') and I drove home with Suki in her little cage, which she didn't like one bit.  Later I discovered that she is not usually confined in the car - whoa, that is too dangerous!  What if there is an accident and she gets loose?  Corky wears a seat belt or rides in a carrier.  As soon as we got to my house I took her out to show her the backyard.

She headed straight for the low wall across the back and leaped up for a stroll.  I was concerned that she would jump down on the other side, but it is very steep and there is no clear spot to jump into, so she just strolled along, taking in the view.
Inside she tried my chair and took a little nap.

But she likes to be up high and ended up on the back of the wing-backed chair.  Besides, from that aerie she could see out the front window in case someone came to rescue her from this strange place.
A few things I hadn't considered.  When we first came in the house I had to go back out for her food, etc., and forgot that she is not sill-trained as Corky is - she followed me out and trotted right on out of the garage to the front yard!  However, she does come when she is called, so I called and she came right back in.  Corky, of course, does not come when he is called because he has completely lost his hearing.   Since Suki can hear everything she rushed around checking out every sound - she was quite concerned that she could hear noises in the garage.  I ran a load of laundry out there and she was hearing the washer which I can hardly hear, maybe I should have my hearing checked.

I was told she would sleep in her cage, but she was not pleased.  So, I let her out and she jumped up on my bed, curled up and went to sleep.  No fussing, no bothering, just a little snoring.  We were both quite comfortable.  I wonder what her parents will say.  It certainly seemed something she is accustomed to doing.

Today I met the friend in the same parking lot and return cute little Suki.  She happily got in the other car and didn't even look back.  I do wonder what Corky will have to say when he smells another dog at Camp Del - not something he has experienced in the past.

One night at Camp Del 03-12-11

I picked up Corky this morning for just one night at Camp Del.  His parents are having a neighborhood party - a "one in a lifetime event" - and preparations were all getting to be too much for the little guy.  Although he seems to be getting indifferent to strangers in the house - when the delivery guys came with the new master bedroom headboard Corky curled up in his bed and slept through the commotion.  Sort of like this:

I find it interesting the way he rearranges his pillow and blanket.  He doesn't seem to do it with his quilt at my house, but when he has a blanket in his LBeach bed he flips and wrinkles and mounds it - just so!  And he does the same with his pillows.

You can tell by this image just how easy it is to overlook him when he is sleeping.  Since he is now profoundly deaf he does check every now and then to see what is going on.  But to purposely awaken him one must move the bed or touch him.  Whereupon he jumps up in a panic - poor guy.  Sometimes I make a breeze with a magazine or something so that he looks up lazily, rather than having him startled all the time.

Simple humor 11-02-10

When I was out and about today, running errands, voting and getting a haircut, I stopped by Borders to hopefully pick up something interesting to read. I've pretty much devoured everything I had on hand during my bronchitis attack. They have lots of racks of calendars which I perused for a quilty one, but they only had one and it didn't appeal to me. But this rack gave me a smile. "Regional Interest"? I didn't realize this region was so interested in nakedness!
Corky will be at Camp Del starting tomorrow for four nights - I need to get everything done and food stocked up because I cannot leave him alone at my house. He just about barked himself to death when I went out to dinner one evening a number of years ago - poor little guy has never experienced such loneliness when he is at Camp Del. We do go out together, of course, he enjoys the gas station with all the interesting people coming and going, and having the car washed for the same reason. Then there is always Starbuck's on the condition that I have a frappacino and share the whipped cream with him. I took him to the Auto Club once, in his stroller with the top zipped closed. Everyone probably thought I had a grand baby tucked in there. Maybe we will meet our friend Liz for coffee one morning - all three of us enjoy that!

What is this? 01-10-09

This is a chicken drinking water in a gutter....

... at my local Starbuck's drive thru! Did she follow me home from San Juan Bautista? This Starbuck's is in Anaheim, for goodness sakes. The barista said she had been around for a month, but this is the first time I have seen her. Weird.

We know who this is - the Poodle Prince. He decided I was not paying enough attention to him and tore up two paper towels. I looked at him, he looked at me, he started tearing again. I told him to stop, he started tearing again. He will be with me until Monday. I sure hope I can give him enough attention lest he tear up every paper towel in the house.
