Dogs Napping 11-10-18

KoKo usually naps curled up, unlike some other dogs.

Corky liked to sleep half in and half out of his boat bed.

The rest of these guys I have saved off the Internet.  They know how to relax.

Friday Food 11-09-18

When I went into the restaurant yesterday I took my camera out of my purse and set it on the table so I would remember to take pictures.  And I forgot!!  Hard to believe since the camera was right there next to my plate.  Well, instead, I took pictures of their fabulous dessert/quiche display case.

The case faces the door, so the reflection is impossible.

Looks good for breakfast or brunch or morning coffee break.

And really tempting desserts.  We shared the one with the whipped cream in the lower right hand corner.  It was perfection.

I didn't consider the quiche, which look tasty, maybe next time.

This is their welcome mat.  There are two other locations - Encinitas (CORRECTION - NOT Escondido.  Sorry!)   and Carlsbad.

There is limited parking in the back.  Take the driveway off Pacific Coast Highway just to the south side of the building and turn left on the alley.  When you walk through the hedge you will have this charming view, which may belong to the business next door, but it gives access to St. Tropez.

To Oceanside for lunch 11-08-18

Oceanside is approximately half way between Placentia and San Diego, so it is a good place to meet my San Diego friends for lunch.   Today we ate at St. Tropez which is located where the old Yellow House restaurant was located.  Traffic was heavy going down, I had ten full stops, but not too bad.  It should be about an hour both ways, but today it was more like an hour and thirty minutes - both ways.

Going south on I-5 - that thin blue line in the middle of the image is the Pacific Ocean.
Traffic back up shown in mirror.

Going north through Camp Pendleton.  The light colored multi-story buildings are there for trainees to learn how to fight in city structures.

Froggie got tossed 11-06-18

I've never been good at throwing or catching.   But since I have KoKo to throw for I have improved.  I can throw the length of the hallway across the front of the house - about 20-25 feet.  Of course, if I don't throw straight the object (usually Froggie) hits something before it gets where I intended.    Don't know how this one went so far astray, the first time he has been in the fan!   Used my trusty retrieving stick to get him down.  The retrieving stick is a dual purpose tool and gets things from high or low or under, and it also measures when I need to measure.   Of course, it is limited to a yard, after that I have to find a broom!

Revisiting a fabulous Ruth B. McDowell chicken quilt 11-04-18

Ruth B. McDowell "Red Hen" posted 07-11-11

I just completely ran out of steam last evening and had to go to bed early - before I posted to my Blog.  Sorry.  This is one of four of Ruth's chicken quilts in TCQC - she likes chickens, I like chickens.  I purchased this from Ruth at Asilomar in 2010.
"The Red Hen"  Ruth B. McDowell - Colrain, MA  2010  17" x 20"
Cotton fabrics, batting, thread.  Machine pieced and quilted.

What a great eye!  I think it is from a Kaffe Fassett fabric.  The feather over her head adds a whimsical touch and notice the rust w/irregular white pattern on the back of the neck - a calico!  It was probably in Ruth's fabric library for thirty years.

Great feet!  Another of Ruth's chicken quilts has two hens
 - one with these blue feet and the other with purple.

Ruth has such a great eye for fabrics and uses mostly commercial prints.  but she will also include batiks, hand dyes, furnishing fabrics.... whatever works in the design.

I appreciate the hand written label - always distinctive.

And the great backing fabric.  This is a quilt that I will sometimes hang backward for a few days, just to enjoy this awesome fabric, which is enhanced by the red quilting thread.

Ruth's quilting lines always add to the image - here with feathers and in the lower left her original version of "Methodist Fan" motif.

11-05-18    I missed posting this in time so the date is indeed Sunday's date, but it is 12:30am on the Oct 5th.  This is probably my favorite of Ruth's chicken quilts in TCQC.  I hang it front side out most of the time, but also flip it for a few days to enjoy the back view of the quilting and this great Marimekko fabric.
