Friday Feet - Big Foot 04-27-12

This picture made me think about the places I never go anymore - one of them is a men's store.  Although I once bought shirts and socks and underwear for my husband, since I have been a widow I rarely go anywhere near such a place.  Although when I got the brace on my ankle I had to go to an SAS shoe store (both men's and women's shoes) to find a shoe large enough to accommodate the brace, but not as large as the one above. My shoes have Velcro closures which my arthritic hands don't handle well, so I use a pair of pliers to pull the straps up tight.  I recently read a Blog post by a lady who wears a size 12 narrow shoe and has a hard time finding something her size that is stylish.  I gave up on stylish a long time ago, but wearing men's shoes is still hard to take.  Oh, well - we do what we have to do, don't we?

Sharing Dessert 04-26-12

When I was in San Diego yesterday Beth and I had lunch at Ikiru, a small restaurant within walking distance of Visions Art Museum.   We each had a sushi roll that didn't quite fill us up, so we were forced to order dessert, which we shared.

This is one serving of green tea ice cream mochi with a chocolate sauce.

Next time I'm going to ask for a spoon, or whip one out of my purse, because we had to cut the mochi with the tiny forks and left quite a bit on the plate.  I tried just spearing one and dipping it in the sauce, but it was too big a bite.  But I gotta tell you, it was delicious.
Where do they find a plate/bowl like this?  And what is it intended for?  I wonder if it is for a dip with veggies.  Surely they don't make a dish so specialized it is just to serve mochi with sauce!

Got the Blues! 04-24-12

Aren't they beautiful?  This selection of fabrics from Cotton Patch, the in-house shop at Empty Spools Seminars/Asilomar, was made by Gail Abeloe, my tablemate in Ruth McDowell's class.  The thing about have a class in Merrill Hall is the shop is RIGHT there, just an easy stroll to the coffee pot.  When Gail came back to her table with this gorgeous selection I could not stop myself.  I trotted right back to buy a half a yard of each.  Of course, I don't know what I will do with them - maybe hang them on the wall in a box frame.  I think I am becoming a fabric collector rather than a quiltmaker.  I'll post some of the other fabrics I purchased at a later date.

Fabulous video of an osprey fishing – notice that he always carries the fish nose forward – aerodynamically correct! http://www.youtube.com/embed/nA3LtXnNIto?feature=player_embedded

TCQC - Kirsten Duncan

Here is another of the gift quilts from the Twelve by 12 group.  http://www.twelveby12.org/
Because TCQC sponsored their exhibits at the three Quilt Festivals they each made a quilt for me.  They are each individual and wonderful.  Most have been in an exhibit at Visions Art Museum in San Diego, but the exhibit ended today so they will be "home" again soon.   I have already posted six of the quilts and will post the others starting tonight with:

"Aussie Birds"  Kirsten Duncan - Australia 2011  12" X 12"
www.pompomrouge.com
I believe that Kirsten's stylized birds are varigated wrens, a common bird native to the Australian scrublands.  The leaves are especially nice with their different prints and aqua accents.

I believe the backing fabric is an aboriginal design.

A nice hand written label - but no contact information.  That is a really important part of a label.
