Saturday Stories - Another Trick 02-20-16

Diane didn’t like any of the guys that came buzzing around her sister Marie.  Marie had dark, naturally curly hair, a sexy body, and a little turned up nose – she was a cutie.

Diane had a pet rooster – a large white leghorn guy named Pedro.  She had raised him from an Easter chick and until he was too large kept him in a birdcage in her room. Then he lived loose in the completely fenced yard.  Eventually he became too bossy and jumped everyone that came near except for Diane.

On the day that Robert came to see Marie, they sat in the living room on the sofa listening to music.  Diane took Pedro into the living room without them seeing her and got down behind where they were sitting.  When Robert slipped his arm around Marie, Diane lifted Pedro up onto the back of the sofa and let go.   They were off the sofa in a second and Pedro stood there flapping his wings and crowing.  Robert left, Marie chased Diane around the house with a broom – threatening her with every step.  Finally Diane ran out of the house and hid where she couldn’t be found.   She was grounded for two weeks and Pedro went to her uncle’s farm out in the country.  Robert gave up the chase.  Eventually Marie married the chocolate covered cherry guy.  They are still married.

Newsletter time again 02-19-16

I'm not so pressured to get the newsletter done this month, and it is a short month that unfortunately started on a Tuesday.  But I started early and some of the officers sent their articles early  so I am able to get ahead of the deadline a bit.  It won't post until next week, but I am going to drive up to San Juan Batista to see Mary and Joe.  Joe is in the hospital and facing another surgery, but Mary wants me to come anyway.  I can keep her company in the evenings.  And I will take my box of Bonnie Hunter quilt scraps and maybe use Mary's machine.

I am missing KoKo, especially since it has been a little cool and I don't have his hot little body to warm my feet!  Maybe he will come to Camp Del when I return from up north.

Don't forget that Yvonne Porcella, who died last weekend, still has a display of her quilts at Visions Art Museum in San Diego. Who knows when they will ever be shown again.  The exhibit lasts until April 3rd.  For information about fees and hours call 619-546-4872

Thursday Threads 02-18-16

Here is another of my quilts, made for the Monthly Mini of Surfside Quilters Guild in March 2013.  It isn't a "series", but is similar to other Monthly Mini quilts I have made over the years.

"Summer Garden #2"  Del Thomas - Placentia, CA  2013 19.5"W x 15.75"L
Fused and machine pieced, machine quilted. faced edge.

The flowers are cut from printed fabric, fused to background and then quilted.

I do like bright backs and this seemed to go with the front - in color anyway.

I think I got everything on the label, including a bird - weird bird.  Sort of a heron.

Re-visit a Ruth McDowell quilt 02-14-16

Here is another look at Ruth McDowell's "Duck Weeding" which is one of my favorite of Ruth's "Fowl" quilts.  She has made more chickens than ducks, but this one just appeals to me - the colors, the inclusion of traditional blocks, the serenity of the duck, the fabulous fabric choices - I don't really understand why - I just like it.
I posted it previously on 03-31-13

"Duck Weeding"  Ruth B. McDowell  2012 18"W x 20.5"L
Commercial cotton fabrics (including Kaffe Fassett, Jane Sassaman, Merimekko), cotton batting, cotton thread.  Machine pieced and quilted.

He even has curly feathers!

Great feet with the perfect fabric choice.

Ruth's traditional label, hand printed.  With a contact for her website.

A wonderful Marimekko back with a Jane Sassaman sleeve.
