Great program - Teresa Duryea Wong 01-20-21

Monday evening was the January ZOOM meeting for Canyon Quilters of San Diego and they had one of the best speakers I have heard in many a year.  Teresa Duryea Wong presented a fascinating program about COTTON.  She covered some history, how and where it is grown today, information about American grown cotton, weaving and dyeing, and much more.  Very educational, but so interesting.  Teresa is a journalist, a researcher, an author, and, of course, a quilt maker.  If you ever get a chance don't miss her COTTON presentation.  Check out her website and her blog.   www.teresaduryeawong.com     www.thirdfloorquiltsblogspot.com

Judith Content 07-18=20

Judith Content is one of the artists featured in the new exhibits at Visions Art Museum in San Diego.   The museum is still closed to the public, but members can make a reservation for a certain day/time to spend an hour enjoying the displays.   Go to the VAM website and look in the Store.  

Today Judith did a program on ZOOM for about 75 ladies who had signed up in advance.  She had prepared a number of pipes wrapped with fabric and string and then dyed and let dry.  As part of her program she unwrapped these and shared her results.  It was exciting to see the shading, lines, and color blending that she created.

ZOOMING! 06-09-20

This morning Surfside Quilters Guild held their first ZOOM meeting on the regular meeting day and time.  And 107 members checked in!  It was so wonderful to see those familiar faces and hear those familiar voices.  Thanks to everyone who came!  Some of us need to learn a little more about ZOOMing, but generally it worked well, I thought.

I don't understand how the member views are arranged.  President Mary Arter remained in the upper left corner of my screen the entire time.  And my view was right next to hers.   Because I clocked in early?  Or does my image move around on the screens of others?  We had an educational presentation by Jean Impey on the printing of fabric as done by Hoffman Fabrics.  It was mostly about making batiks, which I found very interesting.  She works at Hoffman and used professional slides from their archives.   We also presented our outgoing president, Monica Shafer, with her president's quilt which reflects her love of all things Hawaiian.  Good meeting.  Hope to see you all next month.

Checking in with friends 04-03-20

Today the group I belong to in SDiego had a meeting - online with ZOOM.  It was great fun, how wonderful to see my friends again after missing several meetings.  We visited, did Show & Tell, asked and gave advice - just like a regular meeting.  And we were able to meet our dogs and cats - such nice furry babies.  I hope we can do it again next week.  

I showed the unending yellow strip quilt I have been working on as the mood strikes me. 

Yellow Strip quilt - basically a jelly roll quilt only I cut the yellow strips from my fabric library.  The mostly red separators are from a bag of fabric pieces from a lady who cleaned out her sewing supplies.  They were sewn as prairie points and I just ripped out the stitching and evened them up. This is a sort of autumn in New England color scheme.  It is currently 65" long (why didn't I make it 70"?) and 56" wide.  I'll be figuring out some borders..  

All of the quilts I make have a bird in them somewhere.  In this quilt they are on one of the printed fabrics.  Yellow fabric with birds?  How could I not buy it?
