Another Del quilt 11-09-17

I haven't always taken pictures of my quilts and I don't think I have any from before digital cameras.  This one belongs to a friend who is fond of rabbits. 

Rabbit Land  Del Thomas  2014  About 16"square.

Pieced, fused, edge stitched applique.

Cotton fabric, Cotton batting. Machine quilted.

Surfside Quilters Guild November Fest 11-07-17

A week from today, on Tuesday, November 14th the Surfside Quilters Guild will hold the annual November Fest at our regular meeting place:

San Clemente Presbyterian Church,  119 N.. Ave De La Estrella, San Cllemente, CA 92672

The doors will open at 9am when members and guests can shop the Boutique, acquire a bidding paddle for the live quilt auction, and buy tickets for the raffle baskets.  The live auction will be held at 10:15am and the raffle basket winners will be drawn at 12 Noon. 

 

Hope you will drive down and join us for this fun day.

The committee has made a special effort to have baskets that are not quilt related, but full of fun things that even non-quilters will enjoy.

Some people on Facebook have been having fun with posting black and white photos with the caption:

Karen Stiehl Osborn quilt re-visited 11-05-17

There are a couple Karen Stiehl Osborn quilts in TCQC.  This one she offered 2010 for the highest bidder when she was raising money for one of her foster rescue doggies that needed surgery and I was the highest bidder.  The doggie had his surgery and now has a loving forever home.

Karen made this piece for the QuiltArt Quinceanero exhibition in February 2010. It tells the story of her evolution in fiber art - from traditional pieced work with commercial batiks through her current fascination with painting on canvas.

 

 Her signature is on the front in the lower right corner. I do prefer that quilts be signed on the

 

 

front, as painters have been signing them for centuries.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The colored strips with batting showing on the edges represents her traditional quilts of yore. The birds on a wire are so special - I always enjoy watching the migrants flow down to land on the wires for a rest.

 

Karen is an early bird - up and out with her camera whenever she has a chance. I like this excerpt from her journal "...morning I set off early as the ......". I always admire early risers, but I am a confirmed night owl - it takes all kinds we night owls do the swing and graveyard shifts all over the world.

KoKo goes to the groomer 11-04-17

KoKo has the softest fur/hair I've ever felt on a dog, it is more like kitten fur.  And especially when he comes home from the groomer.  No shaggy feet or ears, just smooth fur. 

 

I admit I was holding his tail trying to get him to stand up for a side shot.  The fur on his back is gradually turning grey - from the tail forward!  Don't know why this is. 

He is very loving and obedient (most of the time) but I still haven't gotten any training to keep him from snarling, lunging, and barking when someone walks down the street while we are walking.  Even if they are on the other side of the street.

Friday Feet 11-03-17

 

 

I imagine you may have seen this online.  What a concept - everyone going out naked.  How horrible most of us would look.  You may  disagree, but ageing bodies are not appealing and many ageing bodies all at once would be more than most of us could take.  So, I vote against "Naked Fridays" or any other day of the week.
