Me, Myself, and I! 04-19-23

 This first picture is just a pretty picture showing how full the reservoir is with all the rain this winter. Sitting in traffic gave lots of picture taking time!

I was stuck in construction traffic en route to Empty Spools. I get irked at myself when I don't check the direction of the lens and take a picture of myself....

....instead of what I mean to be aiming at, the traffic stopped in front of me.  This was before all these cars narrowed into one lane.   One hour, one mile!  Soooo frustrating.  

Here is another "back facing" shot.  I have not idea what I meant to take.

And this is what I look like asleep, frequently with my glasses on.

Sooo tired tonight.  Will try to do better tomorrow.

2008 super bloom on Carrizo plain, California.  I think this is below McKittrick Summit, San Luis Obispo County.

And here is a quilt based on that photo made by a student in Ruth B. McDowell's landscape class.  Sorry I don't have the name of the artist.  

And everywhere growing wild mustard along with some wild radish in white to lavender. 

Morning Glory vines are not native, but will spread widely if not cut back. 

And Mexican primrose - once planted it is always with you!

Terry Grant quilt from TCQC 04-16-23

Terry Grant is accomplished in whatever she does and her quilts are varied and interesting.  She lives in Beaverton, Oregon, and is active in textile groups in the greater Portland area.  Terry was part of the International 12X12 project which produced exhibits that traveled the world and also produced two books.  It was an outstanding effort on the part of all twelve members.  www.twelveby12.org

Guild Meeting 04-11-23

The April meeting of Surfside Quilters Guild today - an easy hour drive to San Clemente in SUNSHINE with a little fog along the water.  And hillsides of flowers on backgrounds of bright spring greens.  There was good attendance with about 90 members and guests to enjoy the presentation by Lauretta Crites.   https://laurettacrites.com  Lots of Show and Tell and a number of donated Philanthropy quilts.   I am a little amazed at the hundreds of quilts made and donated by members to support non-profits in our area.  Not just quilts, but also pillowcases, placemats, and other items given freely and from the heart.  Today there were 17 donated quilts in the "quilt parade" that  were  walked a round  the perimeter of the room.  

Some are large and complex. 

Some were more organized.

And some were very basic, but will keep someone warm.

Here is a photo going down the hill from the meeting place to get back on the I-5.  All the wild mustard turns the hills to gold.

Sue Benner quilt in TCQC 04-09-23

This is a blog post from 05-11-17 when I only had two of her quilts.  The first purchase was in 2001 when I found "Marsh #11" at the Thirteen Moons Galllery in Santa Fe, NM.  I had not met Sue at that time, so I didn't know what a delightful, warm person she is and what a great teacher   But I couldn't leave Santa Fe without her quilt.  I have since added two more of her pieces which I will show some other time.

This shows her landscape technique, the class I took at Empty Spools last week. She has made many quilts similar to this, but usually much larger.
