Showing quilts 01-08-15

My friend Liz went with me on Tuesday to San Diego to do a program for Seaside Quilters. What a nice group of ladies.  Although they mostly do traditional work, they seemed to truly appreciate the more contemporary work that I collect for the Thomas Contemporary Quilt Collection.  I'm so glad they invited me to speak to the group.

We stopped at the outlets at Palomar Airport Road to check out the Marimekko fabric at Crate and Barrel. I had heard they were not going to carry it anymore, but the ladies at the store said they had not heard that rumor.  I purchased some to share with Ruth McDowell who no longer has easy access to one of her favorite fabrics.  They had quite a bit of linen fabric with prints suitable for water/trees/grasses/whatever.  If you are heading to (or from) San Diego it is worth a stop to see what they have in.

It is amazing how much green the recent rain has brought out.  The hills on both sides of I-5 resemble the pictures of Ireland.  With more rain they may become even greener, but we know that eventually, summer will come and we will have the lovely California gold hillsides. I'll be going down again this weekend and maybe I will take some photos this time.

I love Marimekko fabric, you can find it at that outlet for less than $6 a yard, 54" wide and 100% linen! It washes wonderfully!
