Not in my garden or neighborhood! 04-18-19

I had never seen or heard of this flower until Victoria Slind-flor posted about it on Facebook.  Victoria lives in Oakland, CA, and said it took about four years for her plant to bloom.  I wonder if I could get one to bloom here in SCalifornia.  The plant's origin is Chili so maybe the climate wouldn't be too much of a barrier.  Check out the info about the plant in the website below.  It is an amazing blossom - hard to believe it is real and not plastic from China or glass from Chihuly.

Well, that is a fantastic plant! It looks straight out of the mind of Dr. Seuss.

The referenced page says it comes from a cooler part of Chile, and should be considered experimental in hot climates. Good luck if you try it.

At first glance, the flowers looked like folded fabric with orange bead centers. It might be fun to render in fabric, but don't know what to do with those green spikes.
