Sorry, I've been sick 11-19-16

The very next day after I wrote "dark days" I came down with bronchitis - again.  I guess I just need to be prepared to go through this every year.  It's the pits.  Mostly it is coughing until I am sick with it.  Can't lay down or even recline without making the coughing worse, so I sleep upright in the recliner.  I have been napping and reading and taking pills and doing inhalation therapy and, of course, coughing!  Haven't been able to sew because the inhalation gives me big-time jitters, but maybe tomorrow I'll try again. 

KoKo is staying with Dee and Ed - bless them for their kindness to the little guy.  I would not have not been able to walk him, but he is coming home on Monday and I'm hoping I will be up to the two walks each day.  If not, he has to settle for walks limited to the back yard. 

I see the doc again on Wednesday and  hope I can get off the steroids.  I hate taking them, but they seem to be the only thing that works.

Black days 11-10-16

I am so far in the dumps I can't think of anything to write about.  I may consider wearing all black as long as Trump is in office.  The speculation about his cabinet just adds insult to injury. 

I need chocolate daily.   Del

Surfside Quilters Guild November Fest 11-08-16

Today was our major fundraiser for the guild, so that we have outstanding speakers and great workshops. 

 

A treasure of our guild is the music before the meeting starts and during break.  We have three pianists who trade off playing.  Above is Pat McNeil.  Also Sharing their talent are Jo Hutcheson and Elizabeth Geer.  We appreciate their selections and their dedication.

Our event includes raffle baskets which were large and fascinating this year.  I did my thread basket which contained about 300 spools of thread - some "pre-owned",  but most of them new.  I collect them throughout the year from friends who clean out their studios and from estate sales.

 

One friendship group does a money tree or bouquet each year.  Trouble is nobody wants to unfold the money to spend it! 

We have a live auction with quilts donated by individuals, friendship groups and the Philanthropy group.  The two on the right are vintage tops, we always have a few.

Of course, there is food.  Delicious treats, both sweet and savory made by members.  We always think, "What will we do with all this food?"  only to find the tables bare by the end of the event. 

 

It was a fun day and, hopefully, we have enhanced our coffers for the year ahead.

Still having computer problems

This is getting frustrating and boring!  The AT&T tech was here today to give me a new modem.  Things went well for a couple hours and then I couldn't get online.  I'll give them a call tomorrow and see if there is anything else they can do.  Meanwhile I probably won't be posting again.

Tomorrow is the Surfside Quilters Guild November Fest, our main fund raiser for the year.   If you attend please say hello to the lady in the hat with the camera - that'll be me!  Del

Another quilt from SAQA Auction 2016 11-06-16

Here is another quilt purchased at the SAQA online auction.  I thought it would fit in well as there are several dog quilts in the Collection.  I consider Judy's quilt "Straight Furrow Log Cabin", purchased in 1985, to be the first quilt in the Thomas Contemporary Quilt Collection.  This one is 322.

Hand dyed fabric by Cathy Shanahan.  Fused, machine edge applique, machine quilted.

 

And there is the shadow dog sitting inside.

 

 

A nice bright architechtural plaid for the back.

Great label - gives all the information I could require.
