Lonely KoKO and Thanksgiving decor 11-05-19

I have been working at the computer to compose the quilt descriptions for the Ruth B. McDowell quilts that will be at Visions Art Museum January - March 2020. 

 So, KoKo is feeling very neglected that I can't stop and play with him as often as he would like.   He brings me toys to toss and will lay them in my lap or just at my feet.  He brings the ones he usually likes - Froggy (of course), the Christmas Tree, Ducky, and the green ball that squeaks.  He is very disappointed that I will not play, so he stands and barks at me.  Poor neglected doggy. 

What an appealing, questioning look!

When we walked last night I noticed that almost all of the Halloween decorations had been taken down.  But one house replaced their blow-up ghost with a blow-up  Thanksgiving turkey.  Then there will be a blow-up snowman in December and they can probably leave that up through February when they could replace it with a blow-up heart.

It is all getting too much for me!

The Best of Show at Quilt Festival in Houston 2019 11-04-19

I have read some moaning about the winner of the Best of Show at Houston.  Some feel that it is too traditional!  Well, only a few years ago some were complaining about the winning quilt not being a REAL quilt because it wasn't

traditional!  Someone will always disagree, I think.  I think this is a lovely quilt and I wish I could see it in the fabric.  

Congratulations to the maker. 

There are many sites with pictures of the winners and a lot more quilts.  Just Google "Quilt Festival 2019" or whatever phrase you can come up with, it will lead you somewhere.

A quilt from the past in TCQC 11-03-19

Terry Grant has been in Houston this weekend with some of her quilts as part of an exhibit "Rising Stars".  I think that is a little deceptive since Terry has been making quilts for many years and has been in many shows.  But I am just happy she is there showing her work, whatever it is billed as.  There are a number of Terry's quilts in TCQC, including one that was hanging at Houston, "Douglas Fir Cone".  Below is a repost of "Oregon Junco" which I posted in 2011 and 2015.

Revisiting a tiny quilt by Terry Grant 

This is such a charming image and reminds me of my childhood in Oregon where the Juncos stayed all year.  With the change in climate I'm not sure what they do now.

The snowflakes are each two tiny white stitches.

Looking Back at fabric postcards 11-02-19

Ten years, or so, ago I was very into making fabric (or fiber) postcards and slightly larger ones I called Quiltcards.  I enjoyed doing it and even taught a few classes which the students seemed to enjoy.  I recently came across a box with material from those classes and am moved to try it again.  Here are a few from years past.  I cannot locate a lot of pictures due to my computer crash and the death of Picasa, but if I keep looking I will find some more. 

This one has a covering of illusion netting. 

This one I cut with an Exacto blade and used the cut away part to make another postcard.

Some of them would work as full sized quilts, I think.

Friday Food 11-01-19

Mystery Food tonight!  These are all pictures I could find searching my photo files.  But the captions are gone, so I am only guessing what and where.  

This looks delicious.  I think it is salmon at Solare in San Diego.

The inside of a homemade BLT on good bread from Con Pane in San Diego.   I only had a couple BLTs this year because I only like them with homegrown tomatoes and I didn't grow any.  And only one friend shared hers.  

This is the outside of the BLT.  That is a regular dinner plate, it was a big sandwich.

This one and the two below must be from Solare in San Diego.  Looks like their plates and elegant presentation.  

Surely it is salmon with a nice array of veggies. 

Maybe beet salad?  It is a favorite of my friend Carol. 

 A salad!  Looks like it might have asparagus and crumbled blue cheese and crumbled bacon.  Makes me hungry.

Hats 10-28-19

I don't imagine that all of the blog readers know this about me, but I wear hats all the time.  Morning, noon, and nighttime, too.   I even have some "turban" type hats that I wear to bed when it is cold.  I've been doing this for at least forty years, so half of my life.  I always liked wearing hats, they were part of most women's wardrobes in the 40s and 50s.  But when I was diagnosed with rosacea I wore hats more frequently and I would take them off and put them under my chair at meetings.   And go home without them!  So, I decided to just wear them all the time.   I imagine some of my friends have never even seen me without a hat.  

It is difficult to find appropriate hats in the colors I wear, but I am always looking.  I hit the jackpot at CVS in Monterey, CA, a few years ago and added green, blue, yellow, pink, and turquoise.  They are very sturdy and are wearing out fast.  

I store them in the linen closet in the hall, but sometimes I just start piling them up on the table near the garage door.  It is pleasing to see them in their various colors piled up together.  These are all hats I have worn in the last two weeks, some more than once.  

Just thought I would share this tonight.
