Looking back at the weather 11-24-18

Back in November 2011, in fact, the 5th of that month, we had spectacular clouds, rain, and snow on the mountains.

And the temperatures dropped below 40F and gave us red liquid amber trees.

Friday Food 11-23-18

I ate the rest of Liz's turkey dinner today and it was still delicious.  I added some fresh broccoli, cooked in the microwave and ended with a piece of peach pie.  So, essentially Thanksgiving dinner two days in a row.  And I still have the chicken, baked potato, broccoli that I intended to cook yesterday.  So, two Thanksgiving dinners followed by a pseudo one tomorrow.  What a way to live!

Soon I'm going to take myself out to Bruxie's for a Green Eggs & Ham wafflewich!  I imagine the calorie count is over the roof, but have never checked.  I get a craving for one a couple times a year.  Just a waffle, fried egg, ham, and pesto sauce.  Wickedly wonderful.
There is a Bruxie in Orange, catercorner from Chapman College and one in Brea near the theaters.

Thanksgiving notes 11-22-18

My friend Liz met me halfway between our houses to bring me a turkey dinner.  It was delicious with turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, two dinner rolls, and pecan pie.
I guess it looks a little pale and "flat" here, needs some broccoli on the left side of the plate.  But I just wanted to eat it and not wait to cook some veggies.

And she gave me an extra spoonful of her special salad which I love.  I'm not sure of the ingredients, sour cream, whipped cream, crushed pineapple, maybe maraschino cherries.

I walked down the hall to the bathroom and saw this spectacular sunset, but by the time I got my camera to take a shot it had already faded considerably.  Don't think this has any connection to the smoke from the Malibu fires, especially since we had rain early this morning.  Not much but enough to clear the air a lot.

Some houses still have their Halloween decorations up, but two of my neighbors put their Christmas lights up today.  Time does go faster and faster each year I live!

Alison Schwabe quilt from SAQA auction 11-18-18

This is the second of the three quilts added to TCQC at the SAQA online auction in October.  I have long admired Alison's work and am glad to have one of her pieces in the Collection.

"Ebb & Flow 26"  Alison Schwabe  2018  12"X12"
Cotton fabric, cotton and metallic threads.  Machine pieced and quilted.

I haven't quite figured out her process, but I admire the lyric lines of the piecing and the quilting.   Lots of sparkle with the background fabric and the metallic quilting thread.

No label, but information written directly on the back of the quilt.  It is difficult to read and may require an additional label   There is an e-mail contact to allow access to the artist.

Interesting fabric on the back.  Might be a hand dye.
