Friday Food 08-23-19

I try to make my doctor's appointments in the morning and don't eat before I go, in case she wants blood tests.  To "reward" myself I go out to breakfast/brunch. I hadn't been to Kimmie's in Orange for months, so I went there and found an empty table with a view out the door to watch the people, cars, trucks, buses, etc., go by. It was a lovely day and there were many dog walkers, so cute doggies to watch also.  I had never had the breakfast quesadilla, so that is what I ordered.  It was fantastic, but to me it seemed more like a flat burrito than a quesadilla. A LARGE flour tortilla with scrambled eggs, bacon, cilantro, and (I think) a little onion, served with refried beans with a little grated cheese and some Spanish rice and some salsa.  Along with a bottomless cup of coffee.

I ate about half before I remembered to take a picture.

It was too much for me and I brought home half to have for dinner. This may become my favorite breakfast, for a while, anyway.

Friday Fanny 08-31-12

One of my favorite places to eat breakfast or lunch is Kimmie's which has four locations - Fullerton, Brea, Placentia and Orange. I had breakfast at Brea the other day and discovered they have expanded into the next store front.  It is a little "cozy", but for some reason it is quieter than the Orange location where I frequently have breakfast or lunch.   Just plain good food and the coffee isn't bad either.

At all locations the waitresses, invariably blond, wear these little aprons in different fabrics.  I'm not sure the short jeans look very good, but the service is great whatever they wear.

Stormy Weather 12-22-10

Yes, it did rain early this morning (Wednesday) - and I mean RAIN! I think it woke me up a couple times; I usually get up several times during the night, I was up about every hour last night. Although I live in the "flat lands" there is a slope on the back of the property - it goes down to a dirt road that provides access for the Golden State Water Company and the flood control channel on the other side of the road. Sometime before we moved here (1986) the slope went down in a bad rain storm and I always wonder if it will happen again. So far, so good.
While I was in physical therapy there was rain off and on, but afterward when I stopped for lunch at Kimmie's Coffee Cup in Orange the sun came out and it was glorious.

It was raining when I got home; I started to back into the garage as I always do, and the sky opened up with rain so hard I couldn't see the opening to back up. I just sat there until it let up enough to back into the garage. I checked the back yard and found only a little standing water, but there is that tale tell mark on the wall that shows how high the water backed up in the last few days.

The rain stopped long enough for me to bring in the trash cans, but then it came down like gangbusters again. This is the view west - which is where our weather comes from.

This is a view to the northeast toward the mountains which have received both rain and snow. But these have not been cold storms, my recording thermometer only went down to 51 one night and has usually been about 60-65 during the day. I imagine that it will be a colder storm when it reaches the Midwest. The TV weatherman says we will have showers tonight and in the morning and then it will clear up - for a few days anyway.

Doctoring equates with Brunch 08-24-10

As a treat for myself I sometimes go to 'brunch' after a morning doctors appointment. Not usually after physical therapy, but I had a great session this morning and I decided a visit to Kimmie's in Orange was in order. I've shown pictures of this cafe in previous posts and it is one of my favorite brunch spots. I like to sit in the front window and watch the people on the street while I eat - it is a good people watching spot.

Like any older area there are deep, narrow shops and stores in downtown Orange, Just wide enough for a row of tables and a counter fronting the long, narrow kitchen. I was there in the lull between breakfast and lunch so it wasn't very busy. The decor is very much like the cafes I remember from my growing up years in Portland, Oregon. Unmatched chairs, tablecloths, flatware and dishes.

This is the view out "my" window - not very interesting at the moment.

And here is the 'brunch' - a "Short Stack". Two fresh eggs - created in California - two slices of bacon (origin unknown), two buttermilk pancakes (made on the premises) and decaf coffee (not as good as Starbucks). Notice the designer plate (they don't know I am a quiltmaker) and the non-matching mug. The shiny disk near the flatware is my purse hook.
After all this I came home and worked on the Surfside Quilters Guild newsletter.
