Twelve by Twelve quilts at Quilt Festival - LBeach 06-30-12

Here is the announcement from the Twelve by Twelve group about their exhibit of 288 quilts from their first two years of making 12" x 12" quilts. I have never seen these quilt "in-the-fabric" and I am very excited that they will be in Long Beach. The quilts were exhibited at Quilt Festival in Houston and Cincinatti and this will be their last venue. I hope you will be able to see them in Long Beach.  I will be there most days, not with this exhibit, but at the Visions Art Museum table. Stop by and say hello.

Friday Feet - Kids 06-29-12

Not precisely "feet", but feet and legs and hands and arms and.... !  These little kids, supervised by their parents, were having such fun in this fountain in Orem, Utah, just outside the restaurant where Beverly Hart and I had lunch.  It was a hot day and they were oblivious to anything other than those lovely jets of water.

Dessert 06-28-12

Corky's parents took me out to dinner for our annual Copper River salmon feast.  There is such a short season and we almost missed it as the menu changed today.  It was grilled, no sauce, just the way I like it.  No pictures - it just looks like salmon, maybe a little more red.   Soup, broccoli, baked potato and dessert.  One of the nice things about dining our with Jim and Sherry is that Jim always wants dessert and Sherry will only have a bite.

For Jim - vanilla bean ice cream with a dark chocolate fish and a crispy cookie.  Excellent.

For Del - creme brule.  Fabulous.  I'd forgotten how much I love it.

For Sherry - Just a bite of ice cream.  She is so good and so skinny!

Kehoe's Agate Shop, Big Fork, MT 06-26-12

Leslie Kehoe owns Kehoe's Agate Shop in Big Fork, MT, an enterprise started by her father years ago near this little artsy town at the north end of Flathead Lake.  I visited the last time I was in Kalispell and was impressed by the stones and articles made of stone.  I purchased a beautiful malachite box.

The shop is way off the "beaten track", customers just have to follow the signs to wend their way to the river side location.  Their website is still in progress: http://www.kehoesagateshop.com/

I knew that I would visit again on this trip, so I took a necklace I've owned for almost thirty years and have never be able to find out what it is made of.   I have always called it my stone necklace and I love the primitive look.  It is quite heavy and the stones seem varied, but apparently they are all from the same source, although they don't look at all the same.  I have previously been told they are volcanic, coral, meerschaum, bone and other materials.  I do know that the spacers are heishi shell.

Leslie tested a couple of the beads on a spectrometer and checked the results against a book and told me they are a form of opal!  Now I know and can do some more research.  Any comments or ideas are welcome.

TCQC quilt by Sandra Hart 06-24-12

Here is another auction purchase from the SAQA online Auction in 2011.

"Lake in the Woods" by Sandra Hart - Los Gatos, CA.   2011 12" x 12"
Created digitally with Photoshop Elements.  Cotton fabric, beads.

This is a whole cloth quilt, printed on fabric with the row of stitched beads to indicate the water line. I almost didn't believe it until the quilt came in the mail.  The color in this image is off - it should be more green.

Big label.  But no contact information.  Fortunately, Sandra has a website.

There is another Sandra Hart quilt on my Blog, one she showed in 2009 at Quilt Festival - Long Beach.
