"Purple Passion" raffle basket 11-10-11

There were so many contributors to the basket that I feel the need to post some pictures taken at the Surfside QGuild November Fest '11.  It was a very successful event, thanks to the hard work and donations of members, their families and their friends.  Thanks, everyone.

Here is "Purple Passion" waiting on table #1 for tickets to be dropped in the bag pinned on the tablecloth.  I did retrieve the bag to take home and count the tickets - 325!  The tickets sold one for a dollar, six for five dollars, etc..  So, if my math is correct (and it may not be!) the basket brought in from $270 to $325.  And I had great fun collecting all the contents.

Of course, I put some of my favorites on the top - the lovely mola fish pillow next to the roll up fit-in-your-purse shopping bag w/paisley design, the lavender clutch bag, the purple spray bottle. Holly Casey's "Crossword Puzzle" booklet, Havel's Dura-snips plus two pair of their scissors are there, along with all that fabric!  Whatever fabric was donated I put in the basket - even if I didn't think it was purple - so the fabric ranged from pink to almost black with a few pieces that had no purple that I could detect.  I like the basket covered with tulle rather than cellophane because the contents seem more visible.

Michelle Lincoln had the winning ticket and she seemed truly thrilled.  She is a purple lover and was wearing purple that day.  Nice to know that someone who will really enjoy it won this basket.

Creating the "Purple Passion" basket 10-27-11

One job I completed during the last few stress filled weeks was finishing and delivering the "Purple Passion" basket.   Strangely, I didn't take any pictures!  Nancy Ota took this image after I delivered the basket - she also weighed and measured it.

The basket measures 15 x 23 x 9.5 deep and weighs 25 pounds.  There are about 78 yards of fabric - fat quarters, half yards, yards, more than a yard and a bundle of scraps (anything that doesn't measure the "cuts" mentioned or has a chunk cut out).  I tucked in some silk scraps from Talbott Ties outlet and someone donated a package of 100 pre-cut 5" squares.  I expect to see at least one purple quilt at Show & Tell this coming year!

Click "Purple Passion" on the sidebar to see a few of the items included in the basket.

Thanks to everyone who donated to this basket - you forced me to buy a larger basket!
See the Surfside Quilters Guild website for pictures and information about the November Fest (Tuesday, November 8th), the baskets and the fabulous live auction quilts http://www.surfsidequiltersguild.org/

More "Purple Passion" 09-29-11

I've added some things to the "Purple Passion" basket, but the basket isn't full yet!
Fabrics from Quilters Coop in Temecula, Flying geese Quilt Shop in Tustin, and Calico House in Placentia.
Buttons, beads and trim from The Wool Lady in Temecula.  Spray bottle and sustenance from CVS!
I can always buy a larger basket!

Cute, huh?  I couldn't resist this sweet little girl in her purple butterfly dress and pink flip-flops.

"Purple Passion" for November Fest 09-24-11

Last year for Surfside Quilt Guild November Fest, I organized a Simply Red basket for the basket raffle.  This picture was taken when I delivered it to Nancy Ota's house in San Clemente - it was so heavy I could hardly carry it.  This year I am doing a "Purple Passion" basket for the same fund raiser.  The guild doesn't have a quilt show so this is our only fund raiser to help cover the cost of quality teachers and lecturers.
I have discovered that purple is decidedly "out", so it has been a struggle to find purple "stuff" for the basket.  I have a "That Purple Thang" and (all in purple/violet/lavender) a magnetic pincushion, a tape measure, a clasp pouch/purse, iron-on thread, perle cotton #5 & #8, eyelash yarn (43 yds), silicone muffin pan (for beads.. or muffins), net ribbon (6"wide on a spool), three individual yards of hand dyed Shibori ribbon, 200 3/8" sequins, and a hand stitched Mola fish lavender-sachet from the San Blas Islands, Panama.
Also, not in purple, a patriotic tin box with clear glass-headed pins in red, white, blue and yellow.
So far there are about six yards of fabric in fat quarters, 1/2 yards and yards, plus some vintage calicoes from the 1980s.
I know that many of you live far, far away and I'm not asking you to ship stuff to me.  But for the readers in Southern California, especially those who belong to Surfside Quilters Guild, it would be a great help if you could fetch that purple/violet/lavender "stuff" to the October meeting to donate to this basket.
OR send me an e-mail or give me a call (I'm in the directory and on the website) and I will try to pick things up from your house.
