Autumn trees 10-19-17

This beautiful Lombardy Poplar is no more, I took this picture in October 2006.  It was at a ranch just down the hill from my friends' house in the hills above San Juan Bautista.  As I drove down the access road it rose from the trees and bushes like a tall flame and gave my heart a jolt.  Gorgeous.  . 

 

 

As you can see, it grew in the horse yards at the ranch. 

I don't know what happened to it.  I think poplars are not a long-lived tree, it might have just died of old age.  I miss it in the autumn.

A busy, boring day

Surfside QGuild board meeting this morning.  Out to lunch at Ruby's Diner.  To the optical "store" to have new lens fitted into my three pair of glasses (readers, bifocals, sun) and I took KoKo to the delight of the girls in the office - he gets lots of petting.  Then to CVS to find a battery for my garage door opener - no luck.  Where is my old friend Radio Shack?  I'll have to go looking again tomorrow.   What a poor excuse for a blog post!

SAQA auction quilt by Charlotte Ziebarth 10-15-17

Only three of the SAQA auction quilts were added to TCQC this year.  Several I was interested in were sold before they got down to my price range. 

 

This one by Charlotte Ziebarth is very unlike any of her work I have seen before and it really jumped out at me.  The colors, the balance of the design, the quilting to accentuate the different motifs.  Very striking.   Although I have one of her beautiful silk scarves, this is the first piece of Charlotte's in TCQC.

She has nice control of her 'cobblestones'.

These circles are printed on the fabric, which appears to be silk. .

This is the back with the label fused at the side rather than the bottom.

The label doesn't have a contact or size, but I will add those.
