Yvonne Porcella Exhibit at Visions Art Museum 01-26-16

I drove to San Diego for the opening of Visions Art Museum's latest exhibit.  In the main gallery is a wonderful display of Yvonne Porcella's quilts from over 50 years of being an artist and in the small gallery are the quilts of Kathleen Probst who is fairly new to the world of art quilts and is going strong.

In the center is Museum Director Beth Smith making introductions.  On the right is Yvonne Porcella in her great gold beret and her grandson Vince in front of "And Then Termites Ate the Purple Dog" On the left is Kathleen Probst.

Yvonne sits in front of one of her quilts for a conversation with Arline Lowenthal  a guest at the opening.
Kathleen Probst in front of Alinea #5, one of her quilts, explaining her work to a guest.

It was a lovely opening and the munchies were pretty special too..

This abstract quilt is from the Visions Abstract Quilter's Challenge.  Members of the Museum are eligible to enter any of the four challenges each year.  The next challenge is

"Hole Flow"  Deb Mackay - San Diego, CA 10"W x 14"L
Cotton fabric, marbling by the artist, paint, thread painting, machine applique and quilting.
Hole Flow is a word from solid-state physics, for a description go to:

Deb is great with marbling and has enhanced her colors by adding the orange paint.
The "frame" and the particles are machine appliqued, thread painting is used on the frame.

A rather whimsical backing.

No label on Deb's quilt - just this identification.
