Friday Facilities 04-25-14

A couple years ago I went to the SAQA conference in Denver; part of it was held in the Brown Plaza Palace Hotel, a long time Denver institution. Throughout the public areas they have lovely fresh flowers, carved woodwork and many other elegant things. Including an exceptional ladies room.

An abundance of cloth hand towels.

Nice soap, tissues and an elegant box....

...containing feminine hygiene products for emergencies.

"Etchings" of shoes and purses.  Blogger doesn't like this one, but won't let me erase it!

More shoes and purses

And there I am - taking a picture of me taking pictures of me taking.....etc.

This is a view of the gorgeous lobby where they serve tea in the afternoon.

Looking up from the lobby one sees tiers of open hallways with wrought iron panels.

And directly up from the lobby is this wonderful skylight with layers of glass.

Summer seems to be here. 04-24-14

Across the country in open fields the tragopogons grow. Many people think they are just giant dandelions, but they are an entirely different plant.  The seed heads are 3" - 5" in diameter.  Also known as Salsify, the roots were eaten by natives and by pioneers.  And they are eaten today in places where they grow profusely.

These pictures were taken in the area of Paducah, Kentucky, at the end of May 2013.

Hope to be blogging regularly now. 04-22-14

I am still working on setting up my laptop the way it was before.  I don't think it is possible, but I will keep trying.  Carbonite is still updating my files and I hope this process is completed soon since I will be going to the final week of Empty Spool classes at Asilomar.  My class is with Hilde Morin, who I hear is an excellent teacher.  I have selected mostly Marcia Derse fabrics for my palette and hope I can make them work in Hilde's style.  Of course, there is the Cotton Patch shop in Merrill Hall and Back Porch Fabrics in Pacific Grove - only a short drive away.  Nothing like being forced to go fabric shopping.

I hope you will check in on this blog while I try to set things up the way I want them and to catch up on my life.

Trader Joe's calls this "Sun Star" (Ornithogalum dubium). It has a rather interesting flower and I love the color.
