Sweet memories, Corky Loos 11-17-18

Corky Loos   07-29-96  -  11-17-13

April 2010 with bunny years for Easter

I was Corky's nanny for about 15 years and I miss him still.  He was much more dignified than KoKo, who loves to play with his toys.  Corky wasn't much interested in toys, but he was willing to do "dress up" which KoKo doesn't tolerate well.   Distinctive personalities for each of them, but both loving and well behaved.

Friday Food 11-16-18

These pictures are from February 2013 when I lunched with friends at a restaurant in Liberty Station, San Diego.  It was called Rosedale and featured fish which was good, but none of us were impressed with the place and I guess that others didn't care for it either as it lasted a very short time.

This fish sandwich was good, but not memorable and I can't remember what fish was used.

The presentation included this colorful leaf that I did not recognize.
But it was what made the lunch memorable, nobody else knew what it was either.

Tatsoi.  I looked it up online and found it is also called spinach mustard, spoon mustard, or rosette bok choy.  It is an Asian variety of Brassica rapa grown for greens
I have never seen it since.

There are many interesting restaurants at Liberty Station, but I usually end up at Ikiru, my favorite sushi place.  I so seldom drive down to San Diego these days that I can't pass up the chance to visit Ikiru.

Surfside Quilters Guild November Fest 11-13-18

Another successful November Fest.  These special meetings are generally a lot of fun and raise enough money for the monthly programs that we can enjoy great speakers.  I always contribute by buying quilts at the live quilt auction.  The auctioneer, Lyn Mann is adept at squeezing out just a few more dollars for each quilt.   I had the winning bids for three of the quilts.  The quilt I really wanted came home with me and will hang in the home of a friend for this Christmas season.

"Christmas Wreath"  Maggie Bell and Jennifer Bell  51" square.

Nice quilting by Cathie Opila.

Always hard to take pictures in this great meeting room.  The windows along the entire side back light everyone and fade things out.  In front are Julie Vlahos and Liz Williams. Next row back: Joan Provance, Kay Johnstone, and Mary Mulcahey.

Walking on the right is Jeanne Haynes.

Fun meeting and Liz,  who came as my guest, won a raffle basket.

Monday Browsing 11-05-18

These two things have nothing to do with each other - other than I like them.

Quilt from SAQA 2018 online auction 11-11-18

"Fish Dinner"  Sheila Gaquin  2018  12" X 12"
Cotton fabrics, cotton and metallic thread.  Machine raw edge applique, Machine quilting.

Sheila lives in the Pacific Northwest, Washington, I believe.  Her blog is
Quilting in the Blue Barn    http://sheilakg.blogspot.com/2018/

Of course I would choose this quilt to add to the bird selections in the Thomas Contemporary Quilt Collection.   Looking at Sheila's blog shows me that her work is very realistic and she has done some larger quilts that are quite wonderful.  And also a series of purses and pillows with realistic sea life.

He has a mouthful of little fish for his meal.

The wings are layered raw edge applique using some great grey fabrics.

A nice watery backing.

Not enough information in the label.  I have no contact for this artist other than her blog.
She rarely blogs.
