Road to California - last seven quilts 01-31-14

 Here are the last seven quilts I photographed at Road to CA on Friday.

 

This is right up there at the top of my favorites.  Patt has a great talent and a good eye for what works.  Her painting is wonderful and her thread painting is spot-on.  I somehow failed to take a picture of the sign, so I worked up poor replacement.  

Any experienced birder could identify this as a snow bunting.

 

 

This is a poor image of this quilt made of 1" finished squares of hundreds of different fabrics.

 



I found it just awesome in it's color - it almost shimmered.

 

 

 

 

 

. I had just had a discussion about Baltimore Album quilts when I came across this one.  It is just "in the style of, but with original tropical blocks rather than copies of old designs

 

 

I've seen such amazing quilts started in Susan Carlson's classes.  And every finished one is a knock-out.

Here is another Baltimore Album, done in the traditional, but with not quite traditional

 blocks.  Great autumn colors, very nice quilting.

 

I like this bird block (of course), but the main reason I snapped it is that I could get the camera close enough since it is in the lower right hand corner of the quilt.  Road still bars viewers from getting close to the quilts by putting up strips of clear plastic about three feet in front of each quilt.

 

 

I  believe this is a photo on fabric that has been thread painted.  She did a great job. 

She achieved her goal of accenting the negative space.  But I feel sorry

 for this little gal sitting in the snow!

Quilt Festival - Long Beach '12 08-01-12

These are the last photos I have of this year's Quilt Festival.  Except for a few more of the 12x12 exhibit which I'll post tomorrow evening.


 

This quilt is larger than I expected it to be.  I'd guess it is about 50" square.  I did find picture elsewhere that states, "1212x1436, but I don't know what those numbers mean. Do you?

 

A wonderful handmade quilt - beautifully stitched.  The blue background is inspired.

 

 

 

 

I see more and more thread painted pieces that are almost photographic.

Here is another of the detailed quilts from Japan.  Such patience!

Here are more of the tiniest glass beads, like minute stars scattered around this quilt.  Each one sewn by hand.

I like this quilt very much and went back to visit it a number of times.  It looks cold, doesn't it?

 

Laura Fogg never disappoints.  Another of her special landscape quilts with gorgeous details.

 

Laura has an unerring eye for choosing fabric to convey the feeling she wants.

Terry has a different view of tulips that is equally as effective.  The black around the quilt is the drape behind it, which I left to show the drooping leaf in the front center.

The patched back ground with flowers and butterflies lends a whimsical note.
