Food again 09-25-12
A week ago Sunday I did a trunk show of quilts from TCQC at the annual meeting of Quilt Visions, the group that operates Visions Art Museum: Contemporary Quilts & Textiles in San Diego. Afterward nine of us had an early dinner at Solare, one of my favorite restaurants at Liberty Station (which was the Naval Training Center until it became "surplus" and turned into a destination with galleries, shops, restaurants, etc.). The food, service, presentation are all excellent and we were there before the dinner hour so there were not a lot of other guests talking and enjoying themselves. Very nice because it seems to me that these days most restaurants are so noisy it is impossible to carry on a conversation. Not having that problem the nine of us chattered away and enjoyed each other's company. I didn't photograph my dinner which was pasta in a sauce with shrimp - delicious, but it looked like every other pasta dish we have all eaten in our lives!
On either side of me the ladies ordered Kobi beef which was gorgeous and tasted gorgeous also, they let me have a taste.

We only ordered one dessert, which came in two portions, or else the chef had cut it in two for us. We passed it around the table so everyone could have a bite and when it came back to me I ate the bits that remained!

Monday Browsing 09-24-12
Two dates for training: Thurs, October 18 at 11 a.m. or Sat, October 27 at 2:00 p.m.
Quilt Visions 2012: Brainstorms exhibition coordinator, Charlotte Bird, will be giving a tour of this much anticipated biennial for people interested in becoming "white glove" volunteers. If you come to the training and sign up for TWO white glove shifts, you will receive a free Brainstorms catalog. Shifts are three hours each. You don't need to be a Visions member to be a "white glove" volunteer.
We need many volunteers during the October 20, 2012 - February 17, 2013 exhibition. Please help spread the word and bring a friend along for the training!

San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles will now be closed both Monday and Tuesday, effective Oct 1st. This is a result of diminishing support from corporations and foundations. I urge you to support the textile museum of your choice – if we don’t contribute what we can we will lose our quilt museums.

Since my July 4th computer crash I have not gone back to the list of blogs that I read only occasionally. One that is especially inspiring is Wanda Hansen’s http://www.exuberantcolor.blogspot.com/
Lots of traditional type designs in brilliant color.

After looking at Olga Norris’ website for several years I finally decided to add some of her tiny quilts to TCQC. Look in the Gallery under Recent Work and Small Pieces, maybe you can guess which ones attracted my heart. www.olganorris.com

Terri Stegmiller quilt in TCQC 09-23-12
This quilt was one of the pieces in the SAQA online auction in 2011. And it is one of two of Terri's quilts in TCQC - the other one is also a bird which I posted about at: http://www.delquilts.blogspot.com/2012/01/terri-stegmiller-quilt-in-tcqc-01-29-12.html
This little guy is especially expressive with a glint in his eye and his little three feathered tail sticking up. And look at those dear little feet! You know how much I like little feet! Terri has wonderful control when she is thread sketching, creating the irregular line to indicate the "featheriness" of the bird's outline. She also does such rich backgrounds by piecing together different prints and then coating with a transparent paint.
"A Little Birdy Told Me" Terri Stegmiller 2011 12" x 12"
Cotton fabric, thread, batting, embellishment. Machine pieced, thread sketched and quilted.

A good label that tells the buyer and the viewer how to contact the artist.
Altogether a lovely happy quilt which I have hanging in my bed room - like having a "birdy on my windowsill". www.terristegmiller.com www.stegart.blogspot.com
