Miscellaneous 08-24-19

Doe and fawn outside the cabin in Coupeville, WA.

Two fawns across the street from the Art School in Coupeville, WA.

A fearless rabbit on KoKo's walk one day in Mt. Vernon, WA.

Why does anyone think this is attractive?
Hole in blouse, lace chemise, bra back - ugh!

Friday Food 08-23-19

I try to make my doctor's appointments in the morning and don't eat before I go, in case she wants blood tests.  To "reward" myself I go out to breakfast/brunch. I hadn't been to Kimmie's in Orange for months, so I went there and found an empty table with a view out the door to watch the people, cars, trucks, buses, etc., go by. It was a lovely day and there were many dog walkers, so cute doggies to watch also.  I had never had the breakfast quesadilla, so that is what I ordered.  It was fantastic, but to me it seemed more like a flat burrito than a quesadilla. A LARGE flour tortilla with scrambled eggs, bacon, cilantro, and (I think) a little onion, served with refried beans with a little grated cheese and some Spanish rice and some salsa.  Along with a bottomless cup of coffee.

I ate about half before I remembered to take a picture.

It was too much for me and I brought home half to have for dinner. This may become my favorite breakfast, for a while, anyway.

Observations 08-22-19

Some of you have probably recognized that I observe odd things and photograph them.  It is a compulsion!

Like reflections and raindrops on a car hood.

And people's feet/shoes.

Just an arm.  This is in a parking lot.

A nice one - an Allen's hummingbird posing while I was in line at Starbuck's.
With a palm tree foot for atmosphere - sort of like an elephant's foot, eh?

Looking at quilts 08-19-19

Brenda Gael Smith of Australia posted this album of winners at the Australian Modern Quilt Show:

Luana Rubin has posted a commentary on what is new and upcoming in quilts.  If you have an hour the quilts are interesting and the dialog is in both English and French:

Luana Rubin has also posted pictures from several 2019 international quilt shows.  Check out her Flicker pages at:

She hasn't finished the pictures from Birmingham 2019 - soon!

I have pictures that I took at the Quilt Museum in La Conner, WA, but I haven't edited them.

This was Mabel's favorite, a very striking image.

And this was mine.  I'm bothered that the zippers were not mentioned in the materials used, they are such a major part of the design.

Motel decor 08-17-19

I frequently take pictures in motels; the art, the carpet, the strange lamps, and the inadequate bathrooms.  But then I hesitate to post the images with my sometimes caustic remarks.  Sometimes, however, the art is rather nice as in the HIE in Salmon Creek, WA, just north of the Oregon border.

This might be print of a serigraph, I'm not sure.  But it is downtown Portland and the Willamette River  (will am' it).  And I believe the bridge is called the Steel Bridge, the center span lifts straight up for boats to go through.

This is a lovely pastel view of Portland by the same artist, but the bridge shown is the St. John's Bridge which is quite a way down river from downtown.  Artist's freedom, I suppose.

It is always nice to have restful décor in a motel room.  Unlike this one at the HIE in San Luis Obispo in June 2018.  Hard to sleep even in the pitch dark.
