Hot Weather 09-01-12

The weather seems to be different everywhere this year.  August is always "monsoon" season in Southern California, but this year it seems extra humid and extra warm.

These thunderclouds are over the San Bernardino Mountains - at least 50 miles away - and the lightning generated several fires.  Fortunately they also brought rain to the mountains and high desert.

No rain at my house - just temps pushing 100F and clear blue skies.
Blessings on the inventors of air conditioning.

Friday Fanny 08-31-12

One of my favorite places to eat breakfast or lunch is Kimmie's which has four locations - Fullerton, Brea, Placentia and Orange. I had breakfast at Brea the other day and discovered they have expanded into the next store front.  It is a little "cozy", but for some reason it is quieter than the Orange location where I frequently have breakfast or lunch.   Just plain good food and the coffee isn't bad either.

At all locations the waitresses, invariably blond, wear these little aprons in different fabrics.  I'm not sure the short jeans look very good, but the service is great whatever they wear.

Wounded Warrior Quilt in progress 08-30-12

I'm still sewing an hour a day, but that includes finding MORE red/white/blue fabric, pressing, cutting and, finally, actually sewing.  Once I discovered that the quilt needs to be 48-50" wide and 78-80" long I went back to the strips I had already sewn to add another 20" to each strip.  You are only seeing the bottom two-thirds of the strips - I don't have a way to hang all 80" unless I use a ladder - not something I can do anymore.  When I have all 25 strips constructed I'll have to get someone to stand on the ladder and hang things fulll length.  I decided to make the bottom of the quilt alternating red and white which will limit how much rearranging I will be able to do.  This isn't the Mona Lisa!

Testing Picasa 08-30-12

I'm trying to transfer anything from Picasa to my Blog.  Wonder if this will work.

Wordless/Pictureless Wednesday 08-29-12

I give up.  Picasa will not load any pictures to my Blog.  And I haven't the energy to keep at it for more than an hour.  An hour for one little picture and no results.  Too much frustration for this old lady.  Del

Wondering 08-27-12

I am a license plate reader and a lot of them mystify me.  One time on I-5 I unintentionally played tag with a car showing an undecipherable plate, but we stopped for gas at the same station, so I asked the male driver what his plate meant.  He snarled at me and barked out, "It's my name." turned on his heel and stomped away.  I wanted to ask him why it made him so angry, but considering the prevalence of road rage, I demurred.

I recently saw this one on the 22 Freeway in Los Alamitos.  I Googled "437 feet", but that didn't help.  It could mean a full roll of brown paper, a hole in Alabama, the 10th largest yacht in the world, a Geo caching spot above the Penobscot River, or a bunch of other things.  None seem applicable.

This is a repeat from 2009.  I like the fact that it is a "Great Ride", but even better is the "Actual Size" decal on the window if this Mini Cooper.
