As I said last evening I didn't take as many pictures as I thought I had, or as I should have taken.  Perhaps someone  who reads this will  contact me and share pictures they took, especially the 12"X12" Bird quilts. Anyway, I will continue to  post the pictures I have. 

These two 12"X12" by Terry Grant of Beaverton, Oregon, were hanging on a separate bulletin board from the others.

12X12 quilts in the Thomas Contemporary Quilt Collection 5 08-27-23

I didn't realize time was slipping away from me and I didn't blog all week.  As always I will try to do better.  

Here are six more 12X12 quilts in the Collection from the SAQA auctions over the years.  I do have quite a few  birds and will show more in a future post.  The 2023 SAQA Auction starts September 14.  You can see all 380 of the quilts at   www.saqa.com/auction and read how you can register and bid.   I always go through them all several times and make a list of those I am interested in.  This year there are 24 on my list.  Depends on the price and who is bidding,  but I will  probably acquire  3 or 4  new pieces for the Collection.

SAQA 2019 online quilt auction 08-25-19

Studio Art Quilt Associates 2019 auction will run Sep 13 through Oct 6.  There are 442 12"X 12" quilts so it takes quite a long time to look at them all.  I had to do it in sections over several days.  You can see them at:

I am happy to support SAQA which has done so much to promote and encourage art quilters and I usually bid on several pieces.  Most of the 12" bird quilts in the Thomas Contemporary Quilt Collection came from the auctions starting at the beginning.  Here are a few 12' X 12" pieces from past years.

Some bird quilts on exhibit. 03-22-18

There is currently an exhibit of quilts depicting birds at Back Porch Fabrics in Pacific Grove.  I am always attracted to images of birds in quilts and just about anywhere else.  If you are in the area, especially to attend Empty Spools Seminars at Asilomar, do have a look.  There is a variety of techniques and styles and sizes, including Ruth McDowell's fabulous "A Rash of Flamingoes".   One of the great things about having a collection is sharing it with others.

Diane Wright quilt added to TCQC 11-08-15

This is the second of the four quilts I purchased at the SAQA 2015 online auction.

Reverse applique,  twin needle free motion quilting, hand stitches.

The head is actually black like the rest of the body and the body is black with tiny grey squares.  Love the beak with bits of silver metallic.
