Friday Feet 04-21-17

Here are more sandals from Literary Orange.  These have metallic material which catches the light.  Very pretty.  The wearer was not happy that she didn't have polish on, but I think the shoes wouldn't be as lovely with polished toenails.   I failed to ask her where she bought the shoes.

Throwback Thursday 04-20-17

Sometimes I enjoy looking back through my pictures and revisiting scenes from past years.  These pictures were taken in April/May 2013 when I drove to Washington State to take a class with Joan Schulze at the Pacific Northwest Art School in Coupeville on Whidby Island.  It was an enchanting trip and the class was terrific.  Unfortunately it was the last class that Joan taught before she retired from teaching (but she is still making quilts).  I visited friends along the way and drove some byways to see the landscape and the gorgeous spring flowers.  Wish I could do this exact trip all over again, but then I do have all the pictures and wonderful memories.

The Changing of the Guard 04-18-17

Today was the joint Board Meeting for Surfside Quilters Guild.  Outgoing officers, incoming officers and lunch, provided by the old officers.   We had a nice salad bar (I provided sliced olives) and it was very tasty.  Always interesting to see what people like on their salad.  We do a sign-up sheet, so we don't get five bowls of olives, three of beans and one of lettuce!  It is all very tasty and civilized.

It was a good meeting with some new ideas and lots of input from those attending.  Of course, that means the meeting went on too long and people were having to sneak out the door.

I picked up and dropped off Bette Bradley, who doesn't drive any more, and she will now get to ride with me twice a month - for the guild meeting and the board meeting.  I got home about 2:15p and KoKo had been a good doggie whilst I was gone.  He is SUCH a good dog.

Outgoing president Betty Collins, Incoming president Linda Rigdon

The pass through is adequate for the variety of salad fixings.

Also from Terry on April 9, 2017:
And maybe because it was my birthday, it seemed like a good day to finally get a weight off my shoulders that has been sitting there for a couple years. I took on the job of gathering the photos and text to self-publish a small book for the Twelve by Twelve group as a document of our second project—the one that came after our first book was published. It has been a hard project—many hours laying it out, proof-reading, tweaking, making changes, interrupted by long periods when it went on the back burner while I worked on other things. It was finally finished months ago, but I kept having second thoughts and the longer I procrastinated, the harder it became to just make the decision to send it to print. But I did, this week, on my birthday, and then I sent an email to the other eleven and they all got excited and happy and we all ordered books! It is available on Amazon. You can get the details at https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1515161455/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=twebytwethein-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=1515161455&linkId=1adf05bb3a638320510c6373d367fa94

"Summer Lily" by Ruth McDowell posted 04-16-17

This is the most spring-like quilt in TCQC.  I posted it previously in May 2009, although I purchased it in 2003.  The original post is at:
and has a funny story about those terrible high beds one finds in motels these days.

"Summer Lily"  Ruth B. McDowell  2002  59"W x 70"L
Cotton fabric, cotton batting, cotton thread
Machine pieced and quilted.

The actual lily plant is 7 - 9 inches tall, so this exaggeration is an eye stopper.
One of the delights in Ruth's quilts is the variety of fabrics that she uses and manages to mix together successfully.

In the early 90s Ruth designed a line of fabrics for South Seas and has used bits of them for years in her quilts.  The leaf in the middle with the blue nine-patches and the snaky white "stitches" is one of hers.  The Swiss chard at the bottom is a Kaffe Fassett.

At the top of the picture with the floating triangles and also the light fabric with white bits that is in the middle of the picture are both Ruth's fabrics.  The gold and white checks in the bottom flower is a Marimekko.

The back fabric is also a Marimekko.  In this picture you can see the intricate quilting done on a domestic Pfaff machine.

And here is the back with those enormous yellow/orange/green poppies - one of Marimekko's best.
Ruth's hand lettered label and the TCQC label above it.

Here is that cute doggie again 04-15-17

He has my attention, reclining in "his" chair.
What does he have in mind?

A tummy rub, of course.
He is an absolute pest some days.  And I love it!

We walked all around the tract yesterday evening and this evening.  Takes a half an hour and we both enjoyed it.  Such flowers are blooming.
