Still no pictures 04-02-11

The five-day session at Empty Spools starts tomorrow at 3pm.  I am looking forward to my class with Ruth McDowell, to seeing old friends and the wonderful outdoor atmosphere of the Asilomar Conference Grounds.  In the morning Mary, Joe and I will go out to breakfast and then I'm off one way and Mary is off to pick up two of her grandgirls for a few days with Grandma.
I hope I will be able to post some pictures during the week, but I have not yet worked out the "work around" that Blogger is offering.

Posting no pictures 04-01-11

I do have pictures ready to post, but Blogger is still having problems and the pictures will not appear.  Since I am on Mary's satellite connection I can't download a new program, so, I guess there are no pictures until Blogger solves the problem or I figure out a way to get around it.  They say to use HTML and remove the height and width, but I don't see any H or W.  Suggestions?

I drove up to San Juan Bautista yesterday to spend a few days with Mary and Joe.  An easy drive once I was out of the Los Angeles Basin.   I only stopped twice!  And I could get out of the car both times and also when I arrived here.  Looks like the aqua therapy may be the answer to my problems.   I have my exercise mat and other equipment along so I can do floor exercises to take the place of the aqua therapy.  I did not bring fabric, sewing machine and other paraphernalia - instead I will work at design and brought lots of paper, pencils, markers, etc., along with some drawings I would like to turn into quilts.  I have done this in Ruth McDowell's class in previous years, so I know it will work okay.   I brought along a new quilt I purchased for the Collection and will show it one night at Empty Spools Spools Show & Tell.  I have not been making any quilts, so I will put on my collecting hat!

The temp in Placentia was in the 90s when I left and it has been in the upper 70s here today.  It is lovely to not be cold unless one layers many layers.  I'm hoping for continued good weather in Pacific Grove for this coming week.

Might not be posting... 03-28-11

Sorry, my friends, I am really under the gun this week and probably won't be posting much.  I haven't done anything to get ready to go except for my "slush" box where I toss things as I think of them and then when I pack have to put about half of them away..  "Why did I think I needed to take this with me?"  Answer unknown!   I had a good session at aqua therapy this morning and made an appointment for another on April 13th, meanwhile I will continue with the "floor" exercises - I even bought a new mat to take with me up north.   I'll probably have some traveling pictures to post around the end of this week.

Terry Grant quilt in TCQC posted 03-27-11

This is another attempt to post these pictures. 3:30p 03-28-11

 "Oregon Junco"  Terry Grant  2007  9" x 9"
Cotton fabrics, fusing, machine stitching, hand stitching, "quilted" with hand stitched snowflakes.

When I saw this little piece on Terry's Blog I fired off an e-mail to ask if I could buy it.  Fortunately, I was the first person to ask and it came to be part of the TCQC.   It is one of six Terry Grant quilts in the Collection, mostly small little treasures like this one.

Terry developed her fusing technique by trial and error and has generously shared it in a tutorial on her Blog:
The back is covered - I assume so that the carryovers from the snowflakes won't show.  I don't think there is batting inside, perhaps some other material.  The other material that is inside is felt which Terry uses in small works - certainly makes a nice flat, straight quilt.
Terry talked about this quilt in her Blog:
