Early Halloween 09-29-18

Why does Halloween start before the end of September?  This went up in my neighborhood yesterday and there are another four houses with some sort of Halloween decor.  I guess I am an old fuddy duddy, I just don't get the attraction.  What a waste of time and money!

This isn't a very good image.  I am having trouble with editing pictures, something has changed and I can't seem to find my way either to the old method or some as yet undiscovered new method.  I'll keep working on it.

Friday Food 09-28-18

I looked through my food posting in the past and found this one of lovely meals at Il Vecchio in Pacifiic Grove.   I didn't get there last spring,  but it is high on my list for my next trip up there.

Dining at Il Vecchio in Pacific Grove 03-30-15

One of my favorite restaurants in Pacific Grove, CA., is Il Vecchio, and this year I had dinner there twice.  Five of us enjoyed the following dishes on Wednesday.

Pasta Carbonara  (my choice on Thursday evening)
Cannelloni

Polenta with Ragu

Mussels and Sea Bass  (my choice on Wednesday evening)

I couldn't watch 09-27-18

No, it was too much for me.  The inquisition and the bully boys - gaack!   I'm afraid my blood pressure would just blow my head off, so I just read a few of the after comments and "appraisals", but not many.  I too have had #metoo moments, but I have not reported them or shared them or even want to.  And I've heard women talk about their #metoo events.  All I could do was sympathize and pass the tissue box.  A lot has changed in my 80 years of living, but not the sexual exploitation of women everywhere.  Will it ever end?   I am so sad tonight.  And I am actually glad I have no children, which is really sad.

Autumn is here, I think 09-25-18

The leaves are starting to fall.  They don't turn colors much due to the drought and just the dry SCalifronia climate, but there are some trees that turn a little bit.  I used to have a weeping birch near my front door that turned lovely varied colors, but they are not long lived trees and it died (as did many others in the neighborhood) several years ago.

These pictures are from October 24, 2006

And here is an autumn quilt that I made in 2006 and donated to the first SQG November Fest auction.  I hope someone is enjoying it this colorful season.

"Autumn Trellis" Del Thomas  2006 Approx 24"W x 32"L
Cotton fabric, cotton batting, cotton thread.

Quilt by Aileyn Renli Ecob re-posted 09-23-18

Here is a re-post from 2014 showing a quilt by Aileyn from the SAQA 2014 auction.  I have not  bid on anything in the current auction - yet!  Check it out at:   http://www.saqa.com/

Aileyn Renli Ecob quilt added to TCQC 11-16-14

I like Aileyn's work - there are four of her pieces in the Collection - and always try to be first in line on the day her quilts come up for auction.  This is the latest addition to TCQC from the SAQA 2014 online auction.

"Ginkgo with Fruit"  Aileyn Renli Ecob   2014  12"X12"

Cotton fabric, synthetic accent fabric, cotton batting. Fused and machine stitched. Machine quilted. Decorative stitching on leaves and stems.  Reverse applique.

The rusty colored outline is the bottom fabric.  Notice the even width of that outline.

Nice variation in the leaves, including this print fabric used for two leaves.  The background is not blue - the picture above of the whole quilt is the most accurate color.

Nice wide sleeve, but it could use a little 1/4" ease so the hanging slat doesn't make the top roll over.

Nice handwritten label, but no contact for the artist.  I know how to reach Aileyn, but others would not.
