Now it is Saturday 01-21-23

Sunshine today!   Lovely blue sky.

This is a replanted Christmas poinsettia, probably 10 or 15 years old.

Much smaller flowers/brachts.

Everything is still very wet with heavy dew at night and it is quite cold for here.  The snow on the mountains is starting to melt.  More and more weeds are shooting up and flowers are coming out on them.

No rain predicted for at least the next ten days.

Friday Feet 01-20-23

For awhile Friday was always "Friday Feet" day and I posted pictures of shoes, boots, feet, etc., but along came Covid and I didn't go out and didn't see anyone's feet but mine and KoKo's!  So I started doing "Friday Food".  I don't go out much now, but saw these amazing shoes at CVS Pharmacy.  Can't imagine they would be comfortable, but we are all different.  She might find my standard shoes unbearable.  So, I will sometimes do Food and sometimes Feet.

I suppose there is fur on the inside to keep her toesies warm.  It was a cold day.

Here are some from the past.
Don't know if gnome lovers would approve.  Quite a burden for the little guys.

Elegant feet and always interesting shoes on this lady.

I don't stick to people feet.  These are on Ruth B. McDowell's quilt "Duck Weeding".

These are my favorite feet!   Copied this off the Internet.  Sooo tiny.

Snowy Mountains 01-19-23

The San Bernardino Mountains north of Ontario, CA, where Road to California Quilt Show is being held this week.  Photo by Michalee Sloane.  It has been fairly cold (39F - 65F) so the snow cap will last a while.

I will not go to the show this year.  It is just more than my body can do.  I thought about renting a scooter, but I did that at a large show in Washington state one year when I had a leg problem and, although I saw the quilts, it was rather awkward and not a lot of fun.  Manipulating around all the people and standing up to see the quilts (hung at eye level for standing people) was all very tiring.  Obviously everyone was looking at quilts and not at short people in scooters so there were some almost collisions.  And, after all, I was accustomed to driving a car, not an electric scooter!    I am hoping attendees will post pictures of the quilts online.

We had a few sprinkles today which didn't appear on the weather sites, but they were not much.  Everything is so saturated, I hope we have a chance to dry out more before it rains again.  We usually have rain into February.

Tomorrow is physical therapy, the car needs a smog certificate, and I will need to stop at the market for milk.  I lead SUCH an exciting life these days.

Six month's worth of rain 01-17-23

Not a cloud in the sky this morning, but they have appeared now - more rain?   The average annual rainfall in Placentia is about 14".  Since this series of storms started in mid-December we have had a little over seven inches!   It has been difficult driving in it, but sometimes it is necessary.  Last Tuesday I drove in the pouring rain and wind for the guild meeting, but have avoided too much driving since then.  And KoKo and I have been fortunate to mostly take our walks in between showers.  I can't imagine how people in snow country manage their dog walks.

KoKo in the backyard weeds, he needs drying off whenever he goes out.
Since my gardener retired with the beginning of the new year I am looking for someone else to keep the weeds mowed. "If it isn't one thing, it is another."

This is the low wall across the top of the back slope and you can see the chainlink and block wall on the other side of the flood control channel and access road.  But see that line about seven inches up on our wall?  That is how high the water collected during these storms.  There are drains along the wall, but not enough to drain the water immediately.  When the rain stops it goes down quickly.

This shows the lovely clouds and the park which is accessed from Palm Drive, the closest through street.  Our low wall and patio at the bottom of the picture,

From TCQC a quilt by Sandra Bruce 01-15-23

Another purchase from the SAQA online auction.

"Pelican"  Sandra Bruce - Grass Valley, CA  2021  12"X12"
Commercial and hand-dyed cotton fabric, cotton thread, cotton batting.
Machine pieced, machine quilted.
I heard Sandra give her excellent program on the "Material Matrix" at a guild meeting.   I admire her process of using "fussy cut" squares for her designs and this pelican fits right in with the bird section of the Collection.
Notice that the binding is coordinated to the image on the quilt, a very exacting process which she demonstrated on Quilting Arts TV Show #2208.  She has online classes through Podia.

The label showing her website address.

And the back of the quilt with a very generous sleeve.
