Wicked Dessert 10-07-11

Wednesday evening I had dinner with two friends at Fish in a Bottle in Placentia (they also have a place in Cypress) which is one of my favorite restaurants.  They have wonderful food and it isn't all sushi and sashimi, although that is what I usually chose because I love it!  We decided to save a spot for dessert, which we shared.  It is a fantastic combination of tastes and textures.

Banana Caramel Cheesecake Roll
We ordered it with ice cream which adds a cold hard texture to the soft banana filling and the crisp outside layer (which allows it to stand upright).  The caramel is drizzled on the plate along with chocolate and berry.  To me it seems like an odd combination, but it all works together and is delicious.

Party Time 10-07-11

This is the most elaborate "bounce house" I have seen and I don't see so many of them these days.  I suspect it is the economy - this must be expensive to rent.  The funny thing is that I have never seen any children in the yard here.  Guess they are occupied inside all the time.

Time for flu shots 10-04-11

Every year I have a flu shot, as do millions of people across the country, and today when I visited my doctor for something else I had my 2011-12 shot.  The shots never bother me, except sometimes a little sore spot on my arm.  But today --- Look Out!  By the time I drove home my head, arms and chest ached, my eyes were puffy and I was soooo sleepy.  I felt terrible.  I finally went to bed with several layers of quilts to keep me from shivering.  Soon I went to sleep, more like unconscious, and the day is a blank.  I called the doctor when I woke up about 4pm, just to tell her that I had a reaction.   She thought I should call the paramedics, but I figured it was too late for that, I was beginning to feel better.  Besides, I didn't want to tell her that calling 911 had not even crossed my mind.  I've had reactions to medication of all kinds, but I hope this is the only one I have to a flu shot.  I think having the flu is worse and more frightening.

Australia art quilts "Australia Wide Two"

And, on a sad note..  My weeping birch is really and truly dead.  The Tree Man will come in a week or so and remove it and the yard will be down to only two trees.   Nothing will go in its place for now.
