All KoKo tonight 09-22-18

Here is the little guy all strung out in his chair with Froggie.  He has his left ear over his face and part of his topknot also.  So tired he didn't even mind my taking his picture.

And here is the result of his hard labor.  He selected this spool of thread from the basket when I went off to the bathroom.  Later I found it in the living room in this condition.  Such a lovely shade of red, too.

Friday Food 09-21-18

More birthday!   Yes, I am really stretching it out this year.  The art quilt group in San Diego met on Sunday and we celebrated my birthday and that of Ellen Spellman.  With another wonderful cake from Twig.

Andrea orders the cakes in our group and showed the group's logo on this one, along with our names.

Ellen and Del before we all attacked the cake.  It was fabulous - so rich and moist and fattening.  Thanks to all.

The remains went home with me, but I shared them with friends and neighbors because I had enough chocolate for the day!   It is a very rich cake and icing.  And it isn't a cake that you hold over to eat another day.

White Camellias 09-20-18

Here is one of the quilts I was working on last week.  "White Camellias" was made for the September Surfside Quilters Guild Monthly Mini.  The flowers and leaves are cut from a printed fabric, fused, and machine stitched around the edges.

White Camellias   Del Thomas 2018  21.25"W X 22.5"L
Cotton fabric, batting, thread.  Fused, machine appliqued, and quilted.

Other than the quilting and the zig-zag edge finish everything is fused together.

Every quilt I make has a bird in it somewhere - appliqued, cut from commercial fabric, quilted in, drawn with permanent fabric marker.  Somehow I squeeze one in somewhere.

The full back of the quilt.  The sleeve is hard to see because I made it with netting, a technique I have been experimenting with.

Works good, but it requires more stitching than a cotton fabric sleeve.

The top threads are mostly variegated but basically match the fabric, however the bobbin thread is always black.

The quilt was raffled at the meeting and only made $50.  It was won by Joann Bishop.

Another post-less post! 09-17-18

After the push to finish the quilt and the all day travels and people yesterday, I had to take a day of rest.  KoKo and I played, napped, walked, and read (at least I did) today.   Guess the years are catching up with me.

Don't forget to check out the SAQA online auction going on now through October 7th with different quilts offered each week.    http://www.saqa.com/

A trip to San Diego today 09-16-18

Maybe I should start posting in the morning instead of last thing at night.  It has been a long day and I am past being ready to go to sleep.  The meeting of the art quilt group was very busy and all the quilts for the small eight quilt exhibit for PIQF are now on my guest bed waiting to be transported to Santa Clara in mid-October.  I need to finish mine with sleeve, label, and another round of zig-zag around the edge (a la Sue Benner).  The works are very individual and show many different techniques.  The theme "Urban Elements" was hard for me, but I enjoyed making the quilt - once I got started!  And I hope this will get me back into regular quiltmaking.

I didn't ask the other members of the group if I could post all the quilts, so I will have to e-mail them to see what they say.  Once mine is finished I will post it.

I can't access all of my blog files and am unable to post a TCQC quilt tonight.  Hope the problem is solved soon, I'd hate to lose all of my blog.
