Fiber Postcard class 08-13-15

I taught a Fiber Postcard class yesterday, but  I didn't ask the students if I could put their cards on my blog.  So, here are four that I made in years past.   I only have pictures of them now, but I have a large acid free box full of cards that I acquired when I belonged to www.postmark'dart.com
The students enjoyed looking at the different techniques, designs and motifs on the cards.

Monday Browsing 08-10-15

Author of western literature Ivan Doig has died, this review is of his final book:

Lately I’ve had several conversations about facing a quilt instead of binding it.  Here are a few different techniques:

I bind a quilt with the curved inside corners, it is currently my favorite way of finishing the quilt edge. Kathleen Loomis used this method until she found a way that works better for her:

To further explore just Google “Facing a Quilt”.  Skip the ads, move down to the “Web Results” section.  Sometimes you need to look at several tutorials to find one that speaks the same language you speak.

Last of the Fiberlandia auction quilts 08-09-15

This is the last of the twelve quilts I purchased at the Fiberlandia auction at the SAQA conference in Portland in May of this year.  I had a great time running around the banquet room bidding on the quilts; I was really tired afterward!   And I have enjoyed learning more about each quilt by corresponding with the artists via e-mail.  The quilts are little jewels that I will cherish for themselves and as memories of the great Portland SAQA conference.

"At the Market"  Terry Grant - Beaverton,  OR 6"W x 8"L
Linen and commercial cottons.  Machine stitched and quilted.

Terry has stitched all of this from the back.  She explains her technique:
"Stitched from the back using a sketch on lightweight interfacing as a guide. The added fabrics are also sewn from the back.  I cut the piece larger than the needed size, then placed it by holding it up to the light.  After I stitch it in place, I carefully trim it on the front with very sharp little scissors."
The image is from a photo she took at the market in Cuenca, Ecuador.

The back is covered with a thin muslin and she has added a minimal label.  The edge is stitched with a straight stitch before being trimmed to size.

TCQC program today

Today Liz and I drove to Los Angeles (the other side of Los Angeles) to do a presentation of quilts from TCQC for a group of SAQA members.   I think the ladies that were present enjoyed seeing the quilts and I enjoyed their show & tell.  We also had a delicious salad buffet and yummy desserts.

One of the great things about having the Collection is sharing it with others.

Would the Sally who asked to see the SAQA trunk show please contact me at DELQLTS@aol.com , I have no contact for you.
