Food, again. 6-26-15

Good trip to San Diego, including lunch with Beth at Ikiru.  Instead of having the usual I decided to try one of their specials, a Maui Roll.  It was delicious, but a little soft so I had to eat it with a fork instead of chopsticks.

Sticking up like a backbone are four large potato chips!

The presentation is always so attractive.

Scallops, avocado, shrimp, carrots, who knows what else.

If you are ever looking for a place to eat in San Diego take a trip to Liberty Station and try Ikiru.

Traveling 06-23-15

I am in San Diego tonight.  Had a meeting today to work on "printing beds" for deconstructed screen printing.  We watched Kerr Grabowski's excellent video - well, the part about making the printing bed. - and I helped the other ladies put together their beds.  I may make another one larger than the one I made for Rayna Gillman's class a few years ago.  Maybe the ladies will get together to actually print with some screens.  I enjoyed the process a lot before and think I would enjoy it again, but it seems more like fun and less like work when I do it with someone else.  Here is a print I did in Rayna's class.

Had lunch at a Thai restaurant that was excellent.  Thai food isn't very photogenic, so no pictures.

I'll be home tomorrow evening sometime.

Monday Browsing 06-22-15

Not much in my Monday Browsing file tonight.  I haven't had much time to spend browsing!  But I am making a little progress on my rearranging.  Not as much as I should have, but I am working at it.  Del

We all have “stuff”, where will it go?  A TED talk:

You can go into Pinterest and search for any teacher or artists name and find her work and, sometimes, that of her students.

Here is a Smilebox with pictures of quilts from TCQC:

The Fiberlandia quilt by Laura Jaszkowski

This design by Laura Jaszkowski was used for the twelve little 3" square badges worn by volunteers who could answer questions about the conference or about Portland.  I represents Mt Hood, which I could see from my hotel room (and from our front porch when I was growing up in southeast Portland).  I have always been liked it best of all the Western mountains..  sort of "MY" mountain.  So, of course, I had to have this little quilt.

"Fiberlandia"  Laura Jaszkowski - Eugene, OR   6" x 8"
Commercial cottons, snow hand dye by Mickey Lawler, cotton thread and batting.
Fused raw edge applique, machine stitched and quilted.

DETAIL of mountain

No label, but all the quilts had a paper label on the back of the matting giving all the details.
I have also corresponded with each of the artists to gain a little more information about their quilts which I include when I post them on my blog.
Six more weeks of these small auction quilts.
