Inspiration 01-13-15

Oh, dear, I've been writing the wrong date all day.  How the days get away from me - nowadays.

Over the years I have thought often about doing a quilt with stairs and am always taking pictures of stairs.  I've even drawn half a dozen designs, but never quite end up with what I am looking for.
Here are some stairs from Carol's house in San Diego.  I love the drifts of bougainvillea bracts on each step.  These stairs might be what I have been seeking. Maybe I will be inspired and have the time this coming year.  A goal, perhaps.

Other than the drifts, I like the twisted trunks at the right and the rounded river stones on the left.  Although you cannot see them there is a string of tiny lights on a wire that go up the banister - apparently they are on all the time so one can find their way up and down - clever.

All concepts are fair game--from unicorns to beetles!  Let your imagination run wild!

A 12X12quilt from Australia

This is a most unusual quilt, I'm not sure it is a quilt; I'd consider it a sculpture.  It is 2" at the thickest point.

"Journey On 2#"  Felicity Clarke - Australia   2013
Cotton fabric, wool roving.  Felting, foiling, painting.

It is a very dark quilt and deals, I believe, with depression, that scourge of so many artists.

It is straighter than this, but I had to pin it to my photo board to take the picture and it is distorted by the thickness of the female form.

This photo is taken at an angle in the hope of showing the thickness.

I purchased this at the 2013 SAQA Benefit Auction and was surprised when it arrived in a very fat envelope.  I had no idea the quilt was so thick.  I think the skill of the maker in showing the female form is wonderful, she is like a real tiny person.  But I can't look at her for more than a few minutes because she is depressing.  I should contact the artist for a further explanation of her work.

Yes,  fresh tomatoes in January!

They are very tiny, less than the size of my thumbnail, but still sweet and tasty.  The vines, which are mostly dying in this image, grow in my neighbor's flower bed; the seeds coming from the mulch which contains treated sewage sludge.  .

But on the top where they receive more sunshine the buds are still coming on.

As are the new buds on the flowers.

We also have roses in bloom, this is a Chicago Peace. If one tends one's roses religiously they will bloom year round.   Mine are neglected and very sad.
