In answer to several inquiries about the Wordless Wednesday post. The antlers are from elk. The rangers find the elk antlers in the Reserve after they have been shed. They started hauling them back to the visitors center and keep adding to this 'pillar' of antlers. I wasn't able to find out how long they had been building it or how many antlers they find, on an average, each year.

Jackson Hole, WY has a park with entrances that have antler arches built very similarly to this. I wasn't able to take pics as I was sans battery charger at that point. A friend asked her dh to take pics for me while hunting near there this fall, but I have not heard if he did.
there were a lot of antler racks used in the building of the arches
What a fascinating thing! I had no idea elk shed their antlers, but then we don't have Elk here! I am so glad they are not shot!
My father's father & Grandfather were deerstalkers, so I am used to seeing the poor things antlers mounted for display! (I shudder too, I might add)
