A Very Special Class 09-27-14

Summer Walk, Elizabeth Busch  http://www.elizabethbusch.com/

One of the artists I have admired for a long time is Elizabeth Busch.  She mostly does very large pieces, larger than anything I can accommodate, so I don't own any of her quilts.  She is innovative and tries different directions with great success.  Her quilt, "Summer Walk" is part of Quilt Visions 2014: The Sky's The Limit, the biennial international exhibit at the Visions Art Museum, San Diego from October 3rd to January 4th.  Many of the artists are planning to attend the opening weekend events, October 11th and 12th.  Elizabeth Busch will be at the opening and has agreed to stay over to present a five-day class titled "The Painted Quilt".  I think I was the first to sign up!  I'll have to stay in San Diego, but I can't pass up this chance to study with an expert.  There are still openings in the class, which will be held across the street from Visions Art Museum.  Think about it, it is a rare opportunity.  Here are the details:

 The Painted Quilt
5-day worshop with Elizabeth Busch
October 13-17, Monday-Friday, 9:30-5:00
$525, all levels, sewing machine needed

Using ProChem's textile paints and student's already painted or dyed fabric combined with commercial fabric, Elizabeth will demonstrate how you can create two to three quilt tops during the workshop, each about 24 x 24 inches. She will share her inspirations and how one piece feeds the next in a series. The focus will be on scale and impact, design composition and use of color. You will paint half the time and sew half the time. There will be plenty of opportunities for individual instruction.

Elizabeth's quilt, Summer Walk, was juried into Quilt Visions 2014: The Sky's The Limit and will be featured on the cover of the catalog for the exhibition.

Class will be held at the Barracks 17 Event Space across the street from Visions Art Museum. There is plenty of free parking. Call the museum to register, 619-546-4872.

A materials fee of $60 includes all textile paints, some scrapers, containers, paper for exercises, individual design wall for each student and miscellaneous equipment. A supply list will be emailed upon registration.
