Saturday Stories - free pizza 09-09-17

Some years ago Diane was driving across the country and stopped for the night near a remote farming community.   Right on the highway there was a well known motel, several gas stations, and a couple bars.  There were no restaurants and the motel had no food service.  Although she had some emergency supplies (peanut butter, jam, crackers, a small can of chicken, some baby carrots and, of course, cookies) none of that sounded appetizing.   One of the bars advertised pizza, so she went there and ordered a pizza.  There was a young guy, maybe 30, draped over the bar with a beer in his hand, mumbling to himself.  Diane ordered her pizza and was getting out her money to pay when the guy said, "No, I'm going to treat you to a pizza."  Saying NO Diane continued to argue with him until he became really irritated.  The female bartender waved her hand and said, "Just let it go."  Diane acquiesced and the bartender took the price out of the money on the bar.  The guy seemed completely uninterested in the process and just kept mumbling.  The pizza was delivered, Diane said Thank You again and left to walk back tot he motel next door.  The next morning she was on the road again, wondering what that was all about.  Maybe she reminded him of his mother, or grandmother!  She is still wondering.

Friday Feet 09-08-17

These are over the knee boots.  When I first saw this image in a magazine I thought that tattooing had gone too far!  Of course, it has, but not in this instance.

Thursday Threads 09-07-17

This quilt was for Corky, the Poodle Prince, who I nannied for sixteen years.  He went over the rainbow bridge in 2013.  The quilt was for use at my house when he visited and he did use it.  It was made from blocks donated by a friend who made too many for a queen sized quilt!!  I just added the sashing and the squares on each end.  I think I made it in about 1998.  I thought about giving it to KoKo and maybe I will some day.

Sympathy to all 09-05-17

So many tragic events going on - floods, fires, hurricanes, the terrible decisions out of Washington, DC..  It is a scary world these days.  My heart goes out to all the suffering people in our country.  I've made my donations to various causes, that is all I can think to do.

Meanwhile, the heat has moderated a bit here in Southern California and there have even been a few rain showers, which will help out with the fires.  I'm still not sewing, except for surgery on KoKo's toys, but may get back to it soon.

No browsing this week. 09-04-17

I have been working on the Surfside Quilters Guild newsletter this past week and haven't had time to do much browsing.  It is another 20 pager with the thirty-three challenge quilts pictured.  I wish I could have put in the stories with each quilt, but that would have been at least a 30 page newsletter - more than I care to do or most members care to read!  The quilts are worth a look - 33 quilters started with the same theme and the same three fabrics and every quilt is individual and unlike any other.  It always amazes me.

The weather has moderated and the high today was only 87F, down from 108F on Friday.  Whew!

That KoKo Dog 09-02-17

After a visit to my doctor yesterday (with a clean bill of health) I backed into my garage and the car thermometer read 108F.  The official count for Placentia was 104F, but it seemed hotter than that.  My A/C is still working, but continues to drip water on the floor of the garage.  The A/C man is a bit busy right now and I am hoping he has some spare time soon.  I have towels down to make a dam so the water doesn't run all over the place.

KoKo doesn't seem to notice the heat much, although he does lay down on the cement when we are walking.  We have walked as late as 10:15pm when the temp dropped to less than 85F, but it is still too hot for me and I come home wringing wet after only 20 minutes.  He still wants to play most of the day which keeps me from doing things I need to do.  He plays with lots of his different toys, although he usually prefers Froggie.  Today he was dragging the doggie toy around and took a nap with Snakie.
