This beautiful Lombardy Poplar is no more, I took this picture in October 2006. It was at a ranch just down the hill from my friends' house in the hills above San Juan Bautista. As I drove down the access road it rose from the trees and bushes like a tall flame and gave my heart a jolt. Gorgeous. .
As you can see, it grew in the horse yards at the ranch.
I don't know what happened to it. I think poplars are not a long-lived tree, it might have just died of old age. I miss it in the autumn.
